Description
The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for anOccupational Therapist to join our Client Services team based in Kew. This is a permanent role working in a full-time capacity.
Reporting to the Area Team Leader you willprovide Occupational Therapy (OT) services to people who are low vision or who are blind that meet the needs of the individual while at the same time adhering to Guide Dog Victoria and Disability Service standards. This position has a focus on assistive technology and adaptive equipment for people who are blind or have low vision.
Responsibilities
1. Clinical Service Delivery
- Conduct functional assessments with clients who are blind or have low vision.
- Recommend and implement adaptive equipment and assistive technologies to support independence in the home workplace and community.
- Provide training in the use of vision aids smart home technologies screen readers magnifiers tactile tools and other assistive devices.
- Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team for holistic service delivery.
- Work with a mixed age caseload.
- Organise and deliver client group programs that are skill-based and client-centred with other practitioners.
2. Technology & Equipment Expertise
- Stay current with emerging assistive technologies for people with blindness or low vision (e.g. wearable tech voice-activated systems digital accessibility tools).
- Develop and maintain a library of technology solutions and demonstrations for clients and staff.
- Trial evaluate and recommend new equipment and technology solutions.
3. Client-Centered Planning
- Develop individualised therapy plans and group programs that align with client goals NDIS plans and best practice.
- Provide documentation progress reports and recommendations for funding applications (e.g. NDIS My Aged Care).
- Have knowledge and keep updated of current OT clinical practices and interventions.
4. Stakeholder Engagement
- Provide education to clients families carers and other professionals about adaptive technology.
- Participate in community education and promotional events for Guide Dogs Victoria.
5. Team Contribution
- Contribute to a positive innovative and inclusive team environment.
- Participate in regular supervision professional development meetings and service improvement activities.
Skills And Experiences
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy.
- Current AHRPRA registration.
Knowledge Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated experience working with assistive technology and/or adaptive equipment.
- Strong understanding of disability support systems (e.g. NDIS My Aged Care).
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Solid skills and understanding of communicating in plain English.
- Desirable to have experience working with clients who are blind or vision impaired.
- Desirable to have knowledge of accessibility on smart devices screen readers (JAWS NVDA) magnification software braille devices and smart home technology.
