The RN Clinical Coordinator has a dual role. This dual role includes time at the bedside either as a charge nurse or primary nurse in addition to administrative responsibilities. In collaboration with the Senior Director of Nursing and Clinical Nurse Manager assists him/her in the daily management of the unit in the coordination of patient flow in assuring appropriate staffing budget compliance and in the preparation of performance evaluations. The RN Clinical Coordinator functions as a clinical expert for the unit participating in the ongoing professional development of the team members and in the orientation of new team members. The RN Clinical Coordinator is expected to participate in unit-based and organization-wide committees and task forces and to make a significant contribution to the units performance improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Job Duties:
- Assists in projects/duties as assigned by Senior Director of Nursing (SDN) or Nurse Manager (NM).
- In collaboration with the SDN and NM enforces the units compliance with applicable federal state and local regulations standards and laws pertaining to patient safety and privacy.
- Directs and/or assists with the mobilization of internal and external resources that facilitate patient flow through the hospital and health system.
- Assures that the units environment of care as defined by TJC and by UM UCH is monitored and maintained.
- In collaboration with the SDN and NM manages the units supplies and equipment in such a way as to achieve both expected patient outcomes and expense compliance.
- Works collaboratively and proactively with other clinical and non-clinical departments within the hospital and within UM UCH.
- Participates in the collection of quality assurance performance improvement and patient safety data on an ongoing basis. Assists the SDN and/or NM with the analysis and development of plans for improvement.
- Supervises daily staffing levels and ensures their consistency with established staffing standards census and patients acuity.
- Enters payroll data maintains attendance records and updates and maintains the position control documents.
- In collaboration with the SDN NM and the nursing educator(s) assesses the learning needs of the units team members and participates in developing or facilitating continuing education and professional development learning opportunities.
- Completes leadership rounds on a consistent basis in an effort to achieve patient and team member satisfaction.
- Functions as a resource to unit team members in the coordination and management of patient care activities.
- Adapts work hours as appropriate to the needs of the unit the team members.
- Assists the Leadership Team in the Performance Evaluations of clinical and non-clinical staff.
- Assumes charge nurse responsibilities when assigned. Includes rounding regularly with TMs awareness of patient status changes. Has situational awareness regarding unit activity and hospital wide situations.
- Assists in direct patient care during situations of high census or acuity.
- Demonstrates interpersonal skills and appropriate clinical competence in the care of adult and elderly patients within the established scope of nursing practice in the State of Maryland.
- Maintains and is accountable for required certification CEUs for the year (if applicable).
Qualifications :
Education & Training:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Currently licensed as an RN in the state of Maryland.
- Bachelors degree in nursing is strongly preferred.
- Certification in BCLS is required; ACLS certification is preferred.
Work Orientation & Experience:
- The Clinical Coordinator has a minimum of three years of recent nursing experience in appropriate specialty setting; including one (1) year Charge Nurse experience.
- Proven clinical competence and proficiency in the area of specialty is required.
