Job Title: Director Trauma Program
Location: Salem VA
Schedule: Monday to Friday 5x8 Hour Rotation No Weekends
Salary Range:
- Minimum: $110600
- Midpoint: $143800
- Maximum: $176900 (based on experience)
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Trauma Program Director (TPD) to lead trauma operations compliance performance improvement education and program development at a State Level II Trauma Center. This role ensures trauma center verification standards are consistently met and aligns clinical processes with state and national regulations. You will serve as a high-level liaison between administration clinical staff EMS and regulatory bodies.
Key Responsibilities:
Survey Readiness & Compliance
- Prepare the hospital for trauma verification/re-verification surveys (last: April 2024; next: April 2026)
- Educate staff on guidelines from the American College of Surgeons (ACS)
Clinical & Administrative Oversight
- Oversee operations of trauma protocols registries and outcomes
- Supervise trauma registry staff (3 FTEs) and Trauma PI staff (2 FTEs)
- Direct the work of Trauma Educator Injury Prevention/Outreach Coordinator and 2 Trauma Nurse Leads
- Lead multidisciplinary trauma conferences and coordinate across all units
Education & Training
- Organize internal and external trauma education programs
- Conduct staff development protocol rollouts and mock reviews
Performance Improvement
- Monitor trauma outcomes trends and sentinel events
- Drive corrective action plans and ensure adherence to trauma performance measures
Liaison & Leadership
- Collaborate with dedicated trauma surgeons trauma APPs EMS agencies and community stakeholders
- Report directly to the hospitals Chief Operating Officer (COO)
- Engage with Division Trauma VP and attend monthly trauma meetings
Research & Community Engagement
- Participate in trauma systems development at the local/state/national level
- Facilitate research projects and data analysis for system improvement
Qualifications:
- BSN required
- Current RN license (Virginia)
- BLS ACLS PALS TNCC required
- CEN or CCRN certification required within 2 years of hire
- 3 years of clinical nursing leadership experience in Trauma ED ICU or similar critical care
- Strong background in trauma program management survey readiness and regulatory standards
- Experience coordinating multi-phase care delivery and team collaboration
