Position Summary
The Bilingual Program Assistant has extensive contact with the public and must develop and maintain a working knowledge of the programs and services offered by the Clinical Programs unit. The primary functions of this position are: -Oversight and coordination of day-to-day duties for students and attorneys in the clinic -Direct interaction and communication with the community and serving as a knowledgeable resource about the clinics operations and how the clinic serves students and the community -To serve as a liaison between Clinical Programs staff and a high volume of culturally diverse walk-in clients; to route incoming phone calls to the Clinical Programs Manager attorneys and certified law students -This position will occasionally require travel to off-site meetings and court hearings
Required Qualifications Competencies And Experience
The following skills are essential to this position and must be possessed by the candidate selected to fill the position: -Fluent Spanish and English speech and comprehension as well as the ability to translate documents and interpret conversations from English to Spanish and Spanish to English -Applicant must have solid mental strength to be able to interpret and translate sensitive legal and personal information involving domestic violence sexual/physical abuse family issues immigration/asylum related hardships housing evictions and sensitive employment issues -Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in providing information and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality -Knowledge of general office protocols and procedures regarding mail faxes filing email customer service and multi-line phone skills -Advanced computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Professional Suite -Ability to multi-task be detail-oriented and exercise advanced organizational skills -Exercise effective written and oral communication and excellent customer service skills -Ability to stay calm in situations that involve complex stressful and emotional legal issues -Notary Public Certification required or able to attain within 30 days of employment -Must be able to lift 25lbs and be able to move tables and chairs for special events
Preferred Qualifications Competencies And Experience
-Knowledge of legal terminology -Previous experience with legal matters and working with the general public -Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment and interact with a variety of faculty staff students and clients -Ability to work in a team environment or function independently as needed

Monday Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
