Observes situations in which the RN is called upon to use personal and professional attributes embodied in nursing together with technical skills to solve problems. Hours will be flexible to meet the needs of the apprentice. Apprentices will not perform any duties of licensed personnel as defined by the Nurse Practice Acts of Mississippi. Student apprentices will not be considered as staff when composing unit schedules. Apprentices will not be identified as licensed personnel nor referred to in anyway that might indicate such status. Maximum of 30 days in apprentice role.
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures objectives quality assurance program safety environmental and infection control standards. Performs routine nurse assistant functions according to the list of approved duties. Assists staff with the delivery of patient care through the team approach. Reports pertinent patient information to nurse in charge of assigned patients. Performs non-invasive monitoring of patients such as vital signs nutritional intake and standard surgical preps in accordance with hospital policy. Provides comfort and support for patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patients care and privacy. Transports patients to and from the nursing unit safely and professionally. Performs recordkeeping in accordance with hospital and Information Services policies.
Employee must demonstrate ability to recognize patients individual needs based on medical conditions age (infants pediatrics adolescents young adults middle-aged and geriatric) limitations and planned procedures. Must be able to lift reposition and transport patients linen carts dietary trays and other equipment using proper body mechanics. Requires frequent reaching and walking for extended periods; ability to follow written or verbal instructions and to relate well to patients and visitors. Must be willing to rotate days off shifts and weekends; may be required to work overtime. Self-provided uniform required.
Graduate of an accredited nursing school pending successful completion of licensure. Authorization to test for registered nurse licensure required.
