The Vermont Department Of Corrections is looking for Correctional Educators at Southern State Correctional Facility in Educators teach incarcerated adult students in small classes using specially designed curriculum adapted for individual education levels. Adult Basic Education courses include reading writing arithmetic speaking listening and study skills. Secondary courses include science English language arts mathematics global citizenship art health and career & technical education. General Education Development (GED) course work is taught in science social studies math and literacy.
Correctional Educators plan and develop personalized learning plans for adult students informed by transcripts assessments and prior learning. In their advising role this position provides individual guidance and direction toward educational goals. They prepare administer and score specialized and standardized assessments. Correctional Educators work as a member of a local Educational Support Team (EST) IDEA 504 and other specialized curriculum teams.
Other duties include reviewing and analyzing educational practices and procedures curriculum review and making recommendations to ensure established educational standards are met. They also maintain student progress attendance and related records within the student information system. The State of Vermont reimburses employees for licensing and certification fees required to perform job duties. For this position educators with social studies and/or guidance backgrounds are preferred but not required.
As of July 14 2025 the step 1 rate for pay grade 24 will be $30.27 per hour.

Work is performed in an institutional setting with constant exposure to and interaction with correctional facility residents. Security is a constant concern. Some travel may be necessary for which a valid drivers license and private means of transportation is necessary. Inmates may at times be belligerent and threatening creating some potential for physical danger.
Bachelors degree AND Vermont Department of Education educators license Level I or II
OR eligibility to obtain Vermont educators license within 6 months of hire.
