At TPL were a team of outdoor advocates who believe in connecting everyone to the outdoors. As an ethos we believe access to the outdoors is a fundamental human need and essential to our health and well-being. Were committed to creating more places that bring us outsideparks trails playgrounds and public landsand making them available and welcoming to everyone everywhere regardless of ZIP code. We also understand that land has meaning; it tells the story of our history. Thats why through our Black History and Culture initiativewere working to preserve sites that more fully represent the Black American experience; and were an ally and partner to Tribal and Indigenous communities working in partnership to reconnect them with their ancestral lands.
One hundred million people including 28 million children dont have nearby access to a park within ten minutes of their home. Were determined to change this outdoor equity gapand as a result nine million people and counting now have access because of our work. We have miles to go and a plan to get there. Position Summary:
As a vital member of the Los Angeles Parks for People Program Team the Project Manager will be responsible for a full range of activities associated with the delivery of The Trust for Public Lands mission in the L.A. Area. The Los Angeles Parks for People Team creates high quality community driven recreational spaces in neighborhoods that have suffered from historic disinvestment and environmental injustice. This work includes managing park trail schoolyard and other open space projects from start to finish including project selection partnership building community engagement design and construction administration.
Essential Functions:
Project Management: 85%
The Project Manager will be based in the Pasadena office. A hybrid work model will be available with a schedule determined by management.
Compensation:
Trust for Public Land is a hybrid work environment and this role will ideally be located near a Trust for Public Land office. As a full-time employee you will be eligible for the Trust for Public Lands comprehensive benefits program which includes medical dental and vision insurance vacation and sick pay plus holidays a year end office closure and a 403(b)-retirement plan currently with up to a 7% company match. We offer competitive salaries commensurate with experience; the anticipated hiring range for this position is $80000-90000.

Essential Functions:
Project Management: 85%
- Manage the planning design and construction of new and existing public parks and other open spaces.
- Conduct site selection and evaluation for new projects in collaboration with the Program Director and other staff.
- Select hire and manage landscape architects architects engineers contractors and other consultants needed to deliver the projects.
- Develop and manage project schedules budgets and contracts.
- Conduct community outreach and stakeholder engagement.
- Work with partner organizations public agencies diverse communities and public and private funders.
- Track project progress and deliverables organize meetings and define agendas.
- Scope potential funding and develop grant applications.
- Develop graphics needed for the project including presentation boards flyers etc.
- Advocate for parks and open space in cities in the Los Angeles Area.
- Work with the Program Director and Philanthropy team to build philanthropic support for the program.
- Build and manage external partnerships in collaboration with the Program Director.
- Help identify new projects and partnership opportunities.
- Coordinate with team members to strategize on program development and organizational goals.
- Work with team members to develop tools and best practices for our program.
- Collaborate with TPLs national staff to advance the organizations initiatives and share information internally.
- Seek professional development opportunities to advance individual skills and program mission.
- A passion for The Trust for Public Lands mission and a passion for social and environmental justice are essential
- A degree from an accredited university in Landscape Architecture Urban Planning or similar fieldsor equivalent experience
- At least 4 years of experience design/managing projects with deep community engagement
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures backgrounds and communities and understanding of environmental justice issues in low-income urban communities
- Understanding of proposal writing hiring and managing design professionals and construction contractors.
- Experience with community engagement including working with community-based organizations and public agencies
- Ability to manage complex projects from start to finish working closely with supervisor navigating the project process.
- Ability to work as part of a team and support the framework of a national organization
- Ability to collaborate and negotiate with diverse groups and interests
- Ability to multi-task meet schedules and achieve long term goals
- Well-organized and detail-oriented
- High degree of creativity vision flexibility and resourcefulness
- Excellent oral written and graphic communication skills
- Basic graphic design skills: Adobe Creative Suits PowerPoint AutoCAD excel etc.
- Fluency in Spanish or other languages besides English is a plus but not required
- Strong commitment to TPLs shared values (Belonging Creativity Collaboration Impact and Hope) to effectively work across the organization.
