Position Overview
The PV & ESS O&M Technician Level 1 will be responsible for entry-level operations and maintenance support at solar and energy storage facilities under supervision. Those facilities include but are not limited to ground mount roof top commercial industrial and utility-scale projects with battery energy storage systems.
As an entry-level position within the O&M Department this technician will learn fundamental electrical maintenance and safety procedures while supporting experienced O&M technicians in the field. The Level 1 technician will gain hands-on experience in the operation maintenance and troubleshooting of solar PV and battery energy storage systems while developing core competencies for career advancement.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior O&M technicians with basic preventative and corrective maintenance activities under supervision by completing assigned work orders accurately and on schedule and ensuring proper documentation of all tasks performed
- Learn and apply proper safety procedures including lockout/tagout (LOTO) PPE usage and hazard recognition. This will be achieved by Maintaining a personal safety record free of violations; actively participating in safety audits and training.
- Support documentation of service visits maintenance activities and inspection results through detailed notes and photographs on your service reports
- Perform basic electrical testing and identify system components and their operating states
- Assist with emergency shutdown procedures and recognize emergency signage. Will demonstrate competency in emergency response drills and readiness to act promptly in actual events
- Learn to use basic tools and meters associated with PV O&M operations. Safely and correctly operate tools and meters with minimal supervision ensuring tools are maintained and accounted for.
- Communicate professionally with team members customers and stakeholders by providing clear respectful and timely updates that support team coordination and customer satisfaction.
- Recognize and classify physical PV module defects and failures
- Support acceptance and performance tests on equipment following maintenance activities
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- CPR First Aid and OSHA 10 certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days) Basic language and math skills necessary to safely perform required tasks Strong work ethic excellent communication skills attention to detail and safety oriented
- Electrical helper or apprentice experience preferred but not required
- Must be able to lift 75 lbs and work at heights
- Able to drive or fly to work at remote sites across assigned region
- Willingness to learn and follow supervision from experienced technicians
