Sous la responsabilit du/de la: Chef de cabinet et commissaire la revendication.

Description du poste
Le SUO recherche actuellement une tudiante membre du SUO pour le poste de commissaire adjointe la revendication. Iel assiste le ou la commissaire la revendication dans ses campagnes et ses projets quil sagisse des affaires universitaires ou de lobbying plus large auprs des gouvernements municipaux provinciaux et fdral. Iel assiste galement le Comit excutif dans dautres tches lies la mission du Syndicat.
Selon la Constitution du SUO la ou le commissaire la revendication dirige et supervise le travail de lobbying du SUO auprs des organisations externes et est responsable des relations avec les gouvernements et les organisations externes y compris la communaut de la Cte-de-Sable la Ville dOttawa les gouvernements provincial et fdral et les autres syndicats tudiants. Le ou la commissaire la revendication dfend les intrts des tudiantes auprs des personnes au pouvoir. Iel soulve les problmes rencontrs par les tudiantes auprs des autorits municipales provinciales et fdrales par le biais de campagnes dactions de lobbying etc. Iel aide galement le prsident dialoguer directement avec ladministration de lUniversit dOttawa.
Responsabilits
  • Travailler en troite collaboration avec la ou le commissaire la revendication pour laider raliser son mandat notamment ses priorits en matire de revendication externe et ses initiatives dans le domaine des affaires universitaires ainsi que pour toute tche administrative.
  • Aider la rdaction de politiques ldition de lettres la recherche et au dveloppement de projets.
  • Participer des runions avec des parties prenantes municipales provinciales et fdrales les reprsentations dautres syndicats tudiants et des groupes universitaires concerns.
  • Aider la coordination des journes de lobbying auxquelles les tudiantes peuvent assister et o iels peuvent dfendre des causes concernant la communaut tudiante.
  • Soutenir les campagnes de revendication relevant de la comptence du ou de la commissaire la revendication notamment Votre transport votre droit Le logement plutt que profit et RBC Hors Campus en laborant des stratgies de lobbying et de communication long terme et des vnements comme des manifestations des salons de lemploi et des sances dinformation.
  • Soutenir le ou la coordinateurtrice des bnvoles dans lengagement le recrutement et la formation dtudiantes bnvoles pour lquipe volante.
  • Assister et aider avec les runions de la Table ronde des affaires universitaires (TRAU) et rdiger les procs-verbaux si ncessaire.
  • Prsider le Caucus de lquit compos dtudiantes de reprsentantes des GR et des clubs et mener la mise en uvre de toutes les mesures prendre.
  • Assister le Comit excutif dans dautres tches lies la mission du SUO selon les instructions de la commissaire la revendication.
  • Effectuer dautres tches connexes.
Qualifications
  • Le bilinguisme (FR/EN) est prfrable.
  • Exprience lie aux mdias sociaux en analyse de tendances et en diffusion de campagnes dinformation.
  • Exprience en rdaction de dclarations discours courriels et recherches.
  • Grande motivation et passion pour la dmocratie tudiante.
  • Exprience de travail dans un environnement dirig par des tudiantes et comprhension du mandat du SUO sur le campus.
  • Exprience en organisation dvnements communautaires.
  • Connaissance approfondie de la communaut ddie la revendication Ottawa.
  • Solides comptences en matire dorganisation de gestion du temps et de communication.
  • Capacit travailler en autonomie et en quipe.
  • Connaissance des gouvernements municipaux provinciaux et fdral.
  • Capacit dadaptation et volont de travailler selon un horaire flexible notamment loccasion le soir et la fin de semaine.
  • Discrtion intgrit responsabilit et confidentialit.
  • Capacit crer et maintenir de solides relations interpersonnelles avec les collgues.
  • Exprience en participation ou gestion dune campagne lUniversit dOttawa ou au niveau gouvernemental un atout.

Deputy Advocacy Commissioner




Hours: 34 hours/week starting July until August 29th then 20 hours per week from September to April 30th 2026.
Wage: $22/hour (non-unionized)
Reporting to: Chief of Staff Advocacy Commissioner.
This position is not unionized under CUPE 4349.
Job Description
The UOSU is currently seeking a student member of the UOSU for the position of Deputy Advocacy Commissioner to assist the Advocacy Commissioner with campaigns and projects from university affairs to broader lobbying of the municipal provincial and federal government. They will also assist the Executive Committee with other tasks related to the mission of the Union.
According to the UOSUs Constitution the Advocacy Commissioner shall direct and oversee the lobby work of the UOSU to external organizations and be responsible for relations with governments and external organizations including the Sandy Hill community City of Ottawa the Provincial and Federal Government and other student unions. The Advocacy Commissioner is the students advocate to people in power. They raise issues faced by students to municipal provincial and federal levels of government through campaigns lobbying and more. They also assist the President in engaging directly with the uOttawa administration.
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Advocacy Commissioner to assist them in the fulfillment of their mandate including external advocacy priorities and university affairs initiatives as well as with any administrative tasks.
  • Assist with policy-writing letter editing research and project development.
  • Attend meetings with municipal provincial federal stakeholders representatives from other student unions and relevant campus groups.
  • Aid in the coordination of lobby days for students to attend and advocate for issues concerning the student body.
  • Support advocacy campaigns under the purview of the Advocacy Commissioner including Your Ride Your Right Housing Over Profit and RBC Off-Campus by developing long-term lobbying & communication strategies and events such as protests job fairs and teach-ins.
  • Support the Volunteer Coordinator with engaging recruiting and training student volunteers for the Flying Squad.
  • Attend and support University Affairs Round Tables (UARTs) and produce meeting minutes as deemed necessary.
  • Chair the Equity Caucus made up of students RSG & club representatives and take the lead on the implementation of any action items.
  • Assist the Executive Committee with other tasks related to the mission of the UOSU as directed by the Advocacy Commissioner.
  • Perform other related tasks.
Qualifications
  • Bilingual competency (FR/EN) is preferred.
  • Experience with social media trend analysis and disseminating information campaigns.
  • Experience with statement writing speech writing email writing and research.
  • Highly motivated and passionate about student democracy.
  • Experience working in a student-lead environment and an understanding of UOSUs mandate on campus.
  • Experience organizing community events.
  • A deep understanding of the Ottawa advocacy community.
  • Strong organization time-management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of the municipal provincial and federal government.
  • Adaptable and willing to work flexible hours including on occasion evenings and weekends.
  • Discretion integrity accountability and confidentiality.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong interpersonal relationships with colleagues.
  • Experience participating in or running a campaign at the University of Ottawa or at the government-level is an asset.
Preference will be given to candidates of equity-seeking groups.
