Job Description

The University of Minnesota Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Sciences is seeking a part-time (30%; 0.1cFTE 0.2aFTE) Assistant Professor Program Director highly committed to the exceptional training of Addiction Medicine fellows. This position offers competitive compensation and the opportunity to lead a thriving well-established ACGME-accredited Addiction Medicine Fellowship program with four fellows.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

The Program Director is provided with 0.2 aFTE one day per week dedicated time for program development administration and education. The following are major aspects of the job responsibilities as listed in the ACGME common program requirements:

Be a role model of professionalism;
Design and conduct the program in a fashion consistent with the needs of the community the
mission(s) of the Sponsoring Institution and the mission(s) of the program;
Administer and maintain a learning environment conducive to educating the trainees in each of the ACGME competency domains;
Develop and oversee a process to evaluate candidates before approval as program faculty members
for participation in the fellowship program education and at least annually thereafter;
Review new appointments and renewals of adjunct affiliate and community instructors specific to the program.
Submit accurate and complete information required and requested by the DIO GMEC ACGME or other governing board;
Provide applicants who are offered an interview with information related to the applicants eligibility for the relevant specialty board examination(s);
Provide a learning and working environment in which fellows have the opportunity to raise concerns and provide feedback in a confidential manner as appropriate without fear of intimidation or retaliation;
Ensure the programs compliance with the Sponsoring Institutions policies and procedures related to grievances and due process;
Ensure the programs compliance with the Sponsoring Institutions policies and procedures for due process when action is taken to suspend or dismiss not to promote or not to renew the appointment of a trainee;
Ensure the programs compliance with the Sponsoring Institutions policies and procedures on
employment and non-discrimination;
Document verification of program completion for all graduating trainees within 30 days;
Verify an individual trainees completion upon the trainees request within 30 days and
Obtain review and approval of the Sponsoring Institutions DIO before submitting information or requests to the ACGME as required in the Institutional Requirements and outlined in the ACGME Program Directors Guide to the Common Program Requirements.

In addition to those listed above responsibilities will also include:

Adhere to relevant board requirements and ACGME specialty and common program requirements including but not limited to the Minnesota Board Affiliated Sites Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Metro Minnesota Council on GME etc.
In concert with the Department Head Clinical Leadership GME and Affiliate Site Partners provide ongoing management of the program structure to accommodate available funding resources and identify new opportunities for training and funding as appropriate.
Lead strategic planning for the program to anticipate practice changes future workforce needs and the needs of our hospital partners.
Work to address the existence of systemic biases where we live work and practice. Actively work with the Department GME the University the Affiliate Sites and the community to diminish the effects of biases in education healthcare delivery recruitment in hiring and retention and in healthcare delivery.
Establish programming to support the health & wellness of trainees and systems to monitor well-being and effectively address concerns.

The position has the authority as listed in the ACGME common program requirement to:

Approve program faculty members for participation in the residency/fellowship program education at all sites;
Remove program faculty members from participation in the residency/fellowship program education at all sites and
Remove trainees from supervising interactions and/or learning environments that do not meet the standards of the program. Measurement of your success as a program director includes but is not limited to performance in each of the areas:

The measurements of success as a program director include but are not limited to performance in each of the following areas:

Recruitment of a diverse and capable trainee class
Results of trainee & faculty surveys as part of the ACGME Next Accreditation System or other methods.
Meeting specialty institutional and accreditation requirements as applicable
Assessments of any interventions related to individualized training of trainees community engagement or transitions training including but not limited to curricular interventions novel assessments or newly designed or revised clinical experiences.
Feedback provided by Department Head Executive Vice Chair Associate Dean Fellows
Other examples are QI research and scholarship.
May include examples from the GME dashboards such as board pass rates etc.
Maintenance of ACGME or other Governing Board Accreditation.

The Program Director reports to the Department Head and the Education Council and is supported by the following roles: Associate Program Director Program Administrator (50% FTE) Associate Education Manager Education Manager Education Council Associate Dean for GME & Designated Institutional Official (DIO) and the Office of Graduate Medical Education.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Current certification by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) in thesubspecialty of Addiction Medicine. Must have board certification in their primary specialty (including American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians (AOBFP) American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM) or American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry (AOBNP).
Completion of an Addiction Medicine or Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship.
Applications must include specialty expertise and qualifications acceptable to the Review Committee.
Applications must include ongoing clinical activity.

This role is dually employed by University of Minnesota Physicians and the University of Minnesota. Total salary is market competitive and based on AAMC salary benchmarks. Clinical salary aligned with clinical effort is provided through M Physicians. The base salary range for this position is $237562 - 320000 commensurate with experience qualifications and cFTE. The salary from the University is dependent upon the academic effort of the person hired.
