Spare- School Bus Driver

POSITION: Full-time year around position; this includes snow days scrub weeks & summer break.

IDENTIFICATION: This position is a full-time year around position. The hours of this position are based on school bus routes and student needs. The position is primarily a day-time shift position;with possibility of field/sports trips.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School graduate or GED preferred.
  2. Hold a valid CDL Class B Maine Drivers License with passenger and school bus endorsements
  3. Must have passed a physical exam directed by state requirements and comply with stipulations recommended by the districts examining physician.
  4. Ability to read and comprehend technical information.
  5. Ability to work safely with chemicals and equipment.
  6. Ability to work cooperatively with other employees. Be a team player.
  7. Self directed/ motivated.
  8. Job requires physical ability to lift 40 lbs. stand climb stairs and ladders lift push pull and bend for extended periods.
  9. CPR Certified.

REPORTS TO:

Director of Transportation or his/her designee.

POSITION GOAL: This positions goal is to transport students safely and efficiently to and from school or events. To provide a safe and clean learning environment enabling the students to take the fullest advantage of the districts total educational program. To respect the district and its personnel and represent it with the utmost professionalism.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain a Class B Maine State Drivers License with passenger and school bus endorsements; maintain satisfactory driving record
  2. Ability to pass any district state or federal mandated physical examinations
  3. Perform pre-trip inspections of district vehicles in accordance with Transportation Policies
  4. Be able to check oil coolant and fuel at proper operating levels
  5. Maintain vehicle in proper safe and clean condition
  6. Maintains proper paperwork (student counts route sheets bus slips student conduct reports)
  7. Ability to make independent decisions when it is necessary reports decisions to direct supervisor
  8. Ability to serve as a positive role model of RSU 9
  9. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staff; as is expected of all staff.
  10. Knows and understands use of district email responds when necessary.
  11. Ability to adapt to new and unusual situations.
  12. Ability to interact well with others. Cooperative when working with administrators supervisor staff and community.
  13. Report defects or mechanical failures of vehicle on proper documentation provided by the district transportation office
  14. Be able to manage students in a professional manner; reporting incidents when necessary
  15. Report students needing further disciplinary action to the Director of Transportation or his/her designee.
  16. Observe and obey all district local and state traffic laws
  17. Keep to assigned route at all times; discharge of passengers at authorized stops only
  18. Offer input in regards to bus routes stops and notify transportation office of any changes
  19. Notify transportation office if vehicle is running late; maintains proper radio etiquette
  20. Perform at least 3 emergency evacuations for each trip of students each year; provide transportation office of proper emergency evacuation documentation
  21. Attend all transportation safety meetings and conferences as directed by Director of Transportation or their designee
  22. Report ALL accidents to Director of Transportation immediately
  23. Wear proper uniform attire and maintains serviceability
  24. Be able to follow district policies; contractual obligations with professional attitude
  25. Communicate with students parents and guardians in a professional manner
  26. Follow all necessary requirements of time clock procedures
  27. Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
  28. Must become CPR certified; and maintain certification throughout employment
  29. Participates in workshops and meetings provided for professional development; including Driving Dynamics
  30. Custodial duties may be required
  31. Perform additional duties as directed by the Director of Transportation and/or his/her designee.
