Middle School Assistant Principal
PURPOSE: To serve as a member of the administrative team collaborating in developing and implementing school policies programs curriculum and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development of all students and the professional development of staff.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Serves as a member of the administrative team to develop and implement the total school program
- Assists to develop and establish school goals and objectives and to plan the school instructional program
- Assists in the preparation and management of budgets and schedules and in the coordination and implementation of the co-curricular program
- Assists to define and disseminate information about school disciplinary policies and procedures to parents students staff and community
- Assists in completion of records and reports and in the supervision and inventory of necessary supplies equipment and materials
- Assists in supervising and maintaining auxiliary services and uses community resources to supplement the school program
- Communicates and carries out established policies; delegates and accepts responsibility for completion of tasks; and communicates program goals objectives and policies to the community
- Acts to upgrade own professional knowledge and skills of ever-changing school trends laws and Department of Public Instruction rules
- Keeps the Principal up to date on important school issues
- Assists to supervise and evaluate LNC teachers and staff as assigned by Principal
- Assists to provide direction to staff in implementing goals and objectives and interacts and meets with staff to assist in their development
- Oversees State licensure and renewal process ensuring that records are accurate and are shared with the staff
- Directs mentor/mentee program for new staff members hired at LNC
- Involves the staff in setting budget priorities
- Participates in planning staff development activities Team Leader meetings and Department meetings
- Serves as primary contact for teachers when a student disciplinary issue arises
- Evaluates field trip requests including reviewing that trip procedures are in line with current LNC policies
- Promotes and maintains open communications and positive student attitudes; respects dignity worth of staff and students; and complies with established lines of authority
- Responsible for overseeing that students are complying with State law in regards to compulsory attendance
- Monitors and administers school tardy policies consistently including communication with families
- Assists with scheduling as deemed necessary by Principal
- Assists to implement student orientation and registration activities
- Oversees LNCs carpool helping to develop safety procedures which improve the process
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of current school operating conditions
- Understanding of NC and LNC staff performance appraisal systems and ability to assist all staff in professional development
- Understanding of the operations of Infinite Campus
- Familiarity with NC Licensure and HQ/NCLB requirements
- Ability to communicate with all stakeholders
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to effectively work with diverse groups to solve problems
- Ability to multi-task and respond promptly and professionally within the school environment
- Ability to use data to direct student staff and organizational decision-making
SUGGESTED EDUCATION CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Able to qualify for NC licensure as a school Principal (School Administrator)
- NC licensure based upon satisfactory completion of a program of graduate study leading to the Masters Degree in School Administration in compliance with the NC requirements for such certification
- NC DPI license preferred but current enrollment in an approved program is required
- Prior experience as Assistant Principal is preferred
- Prior experience as a successful classroom teacher is expected
