Position Overview:
Reporting into the Vice President General Counsel for the Communication Systems segment the Senior Principal Counsel is responsible for providing strategic and tactical legal leadership for the TCOM sector. This role operates as a legal specialist and business partner in providing strategic proactive and practical legal counsel and guidance to sector management and staff on general and specialized legal matters.
Position Responsibilities:
- Partners with sector leaders to assess predict and manage legal and other risks in a growing business operating in a mission-critical high-risk environment.
- Advises counsels and functions as a trusted business partner to the sector President and staff on legal and other matters related to the business objectives of the sector.
- Provides legal guidance and counseling on risk mitigation strategies contract interpretation and provisions dispute resolution and other legal issues.
- Negotiates researches drafts revises and / or analyzes agreements contracts memoranda legal correspondence and other legal documents.
- Drives departmental initiatives to achieve team goals drive efficiencies and better serve the evolving needs of the business.
- Engages in factual investigation analyzes complex legal and factual issues conducts extensive legal research independently develops recommends and presents strategies on a wide range of legal matters.
- Ensures that sector practices and procedures comply with global federal state and local laws and regulations and are consistent with applicable corporate policies and procedures.
- Assists in the resolution of disputes and litigation by proactive early involvement in the business process and by conducting necessary compliance / business conduct training; and works collaboratively with other sectors business systems support personnel in assuring that current processes practices and guidelines are followed.
- Engages with customer counterparts as reasonably required in support of addressing certain complex legal / business transactional matters.
- Collaborates with operational subcontracts and supply chain leadership to ensure that contractual and operational risks assumed by the business are flowed down to subcontractors and suppliers.
- Monitors reviews and resolves day-to day legal and regulatory issues as they are assigned.
- Maintains knowledge of current and emerging laws regulations and trends.
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in a business field and Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in New York (or another US jurisdiction).
- At least 10 years of experience in the legal function which can be split across U.S. government law firm and in-house ideally including a mix of more than two.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Government contracts experience within the US DoD market is highly preferred including both U.S. and international government and commercial customers.
- Security Clearance eligibility highly preferred.
- Experience working with executive management.
- Demonstrated ability to articulate evaluate and weigh business and legal risks to deliver practical advice and achieve successful outcomes.
- Exceptional legal writing skills including drafting and editing complex legal arguments and outstanding attention to detail.
- Strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
- Personal commitment to ethics and compliance and experience working in an environment with high ethical standards.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements the salary range for this role in New York State is $157000 - $291000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
