Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal the Assistant Principal provides leadership and supervision in implementing the educational mission of the school. The Assistant Principal supports academic achievement staff development and school improvement in alignment with Board of Education policies administrative procedures and applicable laws. This role also involves supervising instruction fostering a safe and supportive school climate and serving as acting Principal in the Principals absence.
Essential Functions
Leadership & Administration:Assists in the development and administration of school programs aligned with district goals. Provides leadership and direction for curricular and extracurricular programs. Supports ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational offerings.
School Climate & Culture:Promotes a safe inclusive and respectful school environment that encourages academic and social-emotional growth. Encourages parental involvement and maintains effective communication with students staff and families.
Instructional Support:Coordinates the work of school staff and district program leaders to implement instructional best practices. Conducts assessments of student learning and supports instructional adaptations to meet individual needs including those with special needs. Involves staff in planning and evaluating instructional programs.
Staff Supervision & Development:Supervises and evaluates teaching and support staff as assigned. Encourages and facilitates staff participation in professional development. Supports staff with implementing innovative teaching strategies.
Student Conduct & Attendance:Ensures compliance with school discipline policies and attendance requirements. Supports interventions and practices that promote student success.
Scheduling & Operations:Prepares class schedules master schedules and extracurricular activity plans. Assists with budget planning and financial operations within district guidelines.
Professional Growth:Continues to grow professionally through participation in workshops seminars and ongoing study. Models self-reflection and continual improvement in leadership practice.
Additional Duties

Supervises students during non-instructional times such as lunch recess and events.
Coordinates the selection and inventory of instructional materials textbooks and supplies.
Travels to district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Strong knowledge of curriculum instructional methods and differentiated instruction.
Familiarity with data systems student performance analysis and instructional planning.
Understanding of applicable federal and state education laws and regulations.
Proficiency with school technologies computer systems and educational software.
Effective communication skills with students families and staff.
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize tasks effectively.
Strong organizational interpersonal and leadership skills.
Commitment to equity professional ethics and school improvement.
Educational Requirements and Certifications
Certification/License:
Valid Virginia certification in Administration and Supervision PreK12
Valid Teaching Certification
Valid Drivers License or reliable transportation
Education:
Bachelors and Masters degrees from an accredited institution (Masters in Administration required)
Experience:
Extensive successful teaching experience
Administrative experience preferred
FLSA Status: Exempt
Pay Scale: Assistant Principal Scale
(Requires Masters Degree and Administration/Supervision Endorsement. Ineligible for Masters stipend; eligible for Doctorate stipend only.)
