Correctional Educators teach incarcerated adult students in small classes using specially designed curriculum adapted for individual education levels. Foundational skill courses include reading writing arithmetic speaking listening and study skills. Secondary courses include science literature mathematics global citizenship and career & technical education. Correctional Educators plan and develop personalized learning plans for adult students informed by transcripts assessments and prior learning. In their advising role Correctional Educators provide individual guidance and direction toward educational and vocational goals. They prepare administer and score specialized and standardized assessments. Correctional Educators work as a member of a local educational support IEP 504 and other specialized curriculum teams. Other duties include reviewing and analyzing educational practices and procedures curriculum review and making recommendations to ensure established educational standards are met. They also maintain student progress attendance and related records within the student information system (SIS). Correctional Educators are State of Vermont employees. The State reimburses employees for licensing and certification fees required to perform job duties as well as approved professional development.
