Secondary Academic Interventionist

Position Summary

The position of Secondary Academic Interventionist Teacher exists to enhance student success by serving as a Literacy Specialist and Dropout Prevention resource with primary responsibility for developing and delivering targeted academic interventions. This role works collaboratively with teachers professional staff and administrators to support literacy growth address barriers to learning and reduce dropout risk. Additionally the position fosters strong communication with parents and guardians to monitor student progress and promote ongoing engagement in the instructional program.

*Individuals with certification in English Social Sciences Reading Science or Special Education are encouraged to apply. Work experience with At-Risk or Drop Out Prevention will be considered. Experience with providing interventions to develop executive functioning skills and behavior skills preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication both oral and written
  • Positive work history with a high attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated success in maintaining effective relationships with employees colleagues and business/community partners
  • Strategic and Critical thinker
  • Proficient technology skills
  • Experience using data to drive critical conversations and continuous improvements among peer and non-peer groups preferred.

Education Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or Masters degree in related field
  • Certification by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners

Essential Functions

  • Accommodate course content in collaboration with general education teachers for the purpose of providing students with targeted skill based instruction that addresses individualized learning needs
  • Administers developmental testing programs subject specific assessments etc. for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of students progress for the purposes of communicating expectations students achievements and developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment
  • Assess student progress towards objectives expectations and/or skill development for the purposes of providing feedback to students parents and administration.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff other school personnel parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving quality of student outcomes and achieving established classroom objectives in support of school improvement plans
  • Collaborates with all stakeholders ( e.g. students parents colleagues administration etc.) for the purpose of establishing and maintain leadership and positive relationships while focusing on high expectations and continuous improvement for student learning
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements
  • Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment
  • Monitors students in a variety of educational environments for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers parents administrators etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues providing information and/or direction
  • Supports classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans
  • Participates in a variety of meetings including lEPs and 504 meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions
  • Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. adaptive materials grades attendance anecdotal records etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements
  • Reports incidents (e.g. fights suspected child abuse suspected substance abuse etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students providing a positive learning environment and adhering to state and federal laws and school board policies
  • Participates in a variety of meetings and professional development opportunities for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information to perform essential functions

Other Functions

  • Collaborate with internal and external personnel (e.g. other administrators district staff public agencies community members etc.) for implementing and/or maintaining services and programs.
  • Participate in staff development training programs faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work without close supervision.
  • Demonstrates integrity and maintains confidentiality.
  • Works well with others maintaining positive and effective communication with district personnel and works well with others on jobs that require more than one person
  • Is respectful and appropriately interacts with staff students and visitors.
  • Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the Ankeny Community School District safety program.
  • Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies.
  • Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to District operations.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Working Environment

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: lifting carrying pushing pulling climbing reaching driving standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.

Work year established by the District; Salary according to schedule adopted annually.
