Job Description

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Abrades surfaces of metal or hard-composition objects to remove adhering scale sand paint grease tar rust and dirt and to impart specified finish using abrasive-blasting equipment: Shovels or pours abrasives such as sand grit or shot of specified grade into machine hopper.
  • Masks specified areas of object to protect from abrading action.
  • Loads parts on racks in enclosed rooms into tumbling barrels or into cabinets.
  • Turns valves on equipment to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle or into tumbling barrel.
  • Starts equipment that directs blast or flow of abrasive-laden compressed air gas or liquid over surface of parts.
  • Manually directs nozzle over surface of large parts or inserts arms through glove-fitted cabinet openings and manipulates small parts under nozzle for specified interval.
  • May examine finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma GED or equivalent. Some vocational or training certificate preferred
  • At least 12 months experience in sandblasting
  • A working knowledge of manual and automatic sand and grit blasting machines materials processes and practices
  • A working knowledge of safety devices necessary for outdoor sandblasting including street sandblasting
  • A working knowledge of the hazards to health encountered and the protective devices used in sandblasting streets and other surfaces
  • A general knowledge of the operation and routine maintenance of portable and towable air compressors up to 600 CFM
  • Able to do grit or sandblasting and the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

Supervisory Responsibility this position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment this job operates in a shop environment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work - this is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel this position does not have travel requirements.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications must pass a background check and drug test.
