The Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a well-qualified Postdoctoral Research Associate in physics or comparable discipline to join our team. You will work on a project Under the Department of Energys Reaching a New Energy Sciences Workforce initiatives for the Isotope Production Education and Research via a System Study of Photo-nuclear Reaction Yields and Excitation Functions project.
This postdoctoral researcher will support two requests:
The Radiation Measurements Laboratory (RML) located at the Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) complex is requesting postdoc support for the design and fabrication of a bench-top dosimeter wire scanning system. This system will be used at RML to scan dosimeter wires that have been irradiated at low neutron fluences to aid in the characterization of neutron fluence rates in demonstration and test reactors at Idaho National Laboratory (INL).
The Radiochemistry and Nuclear Measurements department is requesting support for researching modeling designing and conducting photonuclear experiments using kinematic recoil techniques to isolate a specific radioxenon isotope. Successful results will demonstrate proof-of-concept that these methods will increase the specific activity of the target xenon isotope in a gas standard. The work will include delivery of an irradiated sample to INLs Noble Gas Laboratory and a finalized manuscript for INL review and potential submission into a scientific journal.
The candidate is expected to be a strong asset to our interdisciplinary R&D team and work effectively both alone and as a team member. The candidate must be self-motivated but also take direction from other team members and peers.
