The Business Line Risk Management (BLRM) AML & Sanctions Director supports four US Strategic Business Unit (SBU) lines of business including Commercial Banking Commercial Real Estate Private Personal and Digital Banking and Private Wealth Management by providing subject matter expertise on Anti-Money Laundering (AML) compliance supporting risk assessments and recommending controls to mitigate AML/Anti-Terrorist Financing (ATF) and sanctions risks. The Director serves as a liaison between the lines of business and the US AML and Global Sanctions department ensuring alignment with the broader AML/ATF and Sanctions risk management framework.
What youll be doing
As a member of the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Governance & Controls the BLRM AML & Sanctions Director will partner with stakeholders to actively manage risks and support alignment with the Banks Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Sanctions Policies Standards and Risk Appetite.

How youll succeed
Monitor and promote compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) USA PATRIOT Act Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regulations and other applicable laws.
Collaborate with US AML Global Sanctions and business teams to identify and assess money laundering and sanctions risks.
Identify red flags related to products and client segments; incorporate red flags into business procedures and provide product-specific training to frontline team members to enable timely identification and escalation of unusual activity.
Develop and monitor risk metrics to help inform key risk and performance indicators for the lines of business. Leverage data to support qualitative assessments of risk through the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process.
Prepare and present AML/ATF and sanctions related reports to management.
Draft and maintain centralized AML/ATF and sanctions business procedures for common and core processes. Socialize changes with stakeholders periodically assess alignment to enterprise and regional Policies and Standards and provide training to applicable stakeholders to promote awareness and adherence.
Establish working relationships and collaborate with stakeholders across the lines of business to operationalize regulatory change.
Assess AML and sanctions risks related to change initiatives to inform design and deployment of commensurate controls.
Participate in regulatory examinations and internal reviews and support business teams with timely and effective remediation of identified deficiencies.
Develop process maps to document key/core processes that support AML compliance (e.g. onboarding CTRs CDD maintenance BSA travel rule etc.).
Assist in the design development and maintenance of AML and sanctions-related controls. Partner with control testing teams in the review and evaluation of test scripts and workpapers.
Advise and support the lines of business on AML regulatory requirements and internal policies including specific customer or transaction scenarios and questions.
Coordinate with business and Governance teams to assess and monitor staffing needed to support effective AML and Sanctions risk management.
Who you are
You possess 7-10 years of experience in AML and/or sanctions; preference for experience within a large US-regulated financial services organization
You have a Bachelors degree ideally in Accounting Finance Business or related field
You have a CAMS certification would be a plus
You exhibit strong interpersonal written verbal and presentation skills; ability to articulate complex issues concisely and communicate effectively and comfortably with senior leadership
You have positive relationship building and stakeholder management skills
You are able to execute tasks under aggressive targets and effectively manage to change in plans
You manage multiple initiatives and projects with limited supervision
You have experience with or interest in Artificial Intelligence and process automation
At CIBC we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $180000K - $220000K for the market based on experience qualifications and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business units incentive compensation plan which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
