ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
QUALIFICATIONS: An example of acceptable qualifications:
High School Diploma G.E.D. or equivalent certificate.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must successfully complete the following additional requirements in order to be considered for employment:
1. A physical ability test (dates and times announced once determined--see below for testing procedure);
2. A background investigation and assessment;
3. A structured oral interview;
4. A medical examination and drug screen;
5. A psychological evaluation.
Physical Ability Testing Procedure:
Phase 1. The candidate will exit from the drivers seat of a patrol vehicle and run 300 feet (100 yards). The time clock will be started when the candidate opens the drivers door. The candidate will need to stay on the pavement or stone path while running. If he/she enters the grass while running then the candidate will be disqualified. Proceed to Phase 2.
Phase 2. The candidate will climb up five steps and move approximately 75 feet in the prescribed direction and descend down five steps. The candidate is required to step on all five steps while climbing and descending if the candidate fails to do so then he/she will be disqualified. Proceed to Phase 3.
Phase 3. The candidate will move approximately 75 feet to the next obstacle and jump over a box that is approximately18Hx12Wx36L. Proceed to Phase 4.
Phase 4. The candidate will move approximately 75 feet to the next phase and load six inert rounds into each of two pistol magazines for a total of 12 rounds. The candidate will charge the duty weapon with one magazine and pull the trigger six times with the dominant hand the candidate will then perform a magazine reload charge the duty weapon again and pull the trigger six times with thenon-dominant hand. If the candidate fails to utilize both the dominant and non-dominant hand as instructed for this phase he/she will be disqualified. Proceed to Phase 5.
Phase 5. The candidate will move approximately 75 feet to the next phase and will open the drivers door and push the power door lock/unlock switch to unlock the rear doors the candidate will then move to the right rear door of the police cruiser and remove the 165 lb dummy from the right rear seat of the cruiser and drag the entire dummy 15 feet away from the cruiser in the prescribed direction across a line marked on the ground. Proceed to Phase 6.
Phase 6. The candidate will move to the rear of the police vehicle and push the disabled vehicle approximately 20 feet. The rear bumper will need to cross the line marked on the ground. Proceed to Phase 7.
Phase 7. The candidate will re-enter the police vehicles drivers seat and put the vehicles transmission shift lever into Park remove the ignition and handcuff key and unlock a set of handcuffs from the steering wheel. The candidate will raise his/her hands to stop the clock. End of the Physical Ability Test.
