Athletic Trainer (.5)/Athletics Scheduler (.5)
Waltham Public Schools Athletics
Description: Assist the athletic director with the scheduling and execution of the middle school and high school interscholastic athletic programs and work in consultation with athletic training colleagues on an effective athletic training program including athletic conditioning athletic injury prevention and treatment injury rehabilitation procedures under the direction of and in consultation with school physician or personal physician (including Concussion Return to Play Protocol).
QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified applicants must forward cover letter resume transcripts proof of ATC license and certifications as well as three current letters of recommendation.
- Bachelors and Masters Degree (preferred) in related fields
- Licensed with the State of Massachusetts (and will maintain license)
- BOC Certification (and will maintain Certification)
- CPR/AED Certification (Recertification every 2 years)
- Concussion Training (Annually will retake training)
- Ability to administer physical therapy to rehabilitating injured athletes as prescribed by a medical doctor
- NIAAA certification recommended
- Possess personal qualities necessary to develop good rapport with professional and non-professional staff members coaches school physicians athletes and caregivers.
- Possess good communication skills necessary to develop a dialogue with coaches athletes caregivers and other stakeholders
- Knowledge of Family ID Arbiter and Microsoft Office Products (Word and Excel) or Google Tools (Forms and Sheets)
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in orchestrating and scheduling for all games and practices.
- Assist in event management when necessary
- Manage transportation and logistics for teams
- Assist in maintaining and updating scheduling programs and facility rentals
- Share responsibility in maintaining and managing social media communications promotional events sharing updates scores and student achievements
- Assist in overseeing the entire sports medicine program for all athletes including but not limited to conditioning rehabilitation injury prevention and treatment with other athletic training colleagues.
- Work with athletic training colleagues on the responsibility for the training room training supplies develop practices and procedures for use of the training room
- Provide medical coverage from the beginning of the fall sport season (including pre-season practices) to the conclusion of the spring season (completed when all teams are finished postseason participation)
- Assess and treat injuries using a wide variety of modalities and supervise doctor prescribed rehabilitation
- Maintain a record of all injuries (including concussions)
- Work with school nurses to ensure that all athletes have had physicals prior to them being cleared to practice
- Assist in the responsibility for maintaining Family ID and the Arbiter for each sport season and for distributing student lists to each sport coach prior to season and throughout the season for purpose of clearing athletes to participate
- Assist in developing a budget in conjunction with Athletic Director for the purchase of supplies and equipment
- Work with the Athletic Director on a daily basis to ensure coordination of events
- Attend all caregiver - athlete/coach meetings to discuss the roles responsibilities and expectations of the athletic trainer and stakeholders
- Keep abreast of current trends and athletic training techniques by attending workshops
- Assist in compiling end of year data and complete Dept. of Health (DPH) report
- Assist in the coordination of pre-season screenings with team physicians prior to the start of the season(s).
- Assist with middle school programs in clearing student-athletes (similar to high school) and provide medical kits for the middle school programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the athletic director
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
210-day position approximately the second week of August through the end of the school year. The athletic trainer/athletic scheduler will work in accordance with a weekly schedule to be determined by the Athletic Director. Weekly schedules will vary according to the athletic season and will include weeknights weekends holidays and school vacations.
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
EVALUATION: The Athletic Trainer will be evaluated annually by the Athletic Director
SALARY: $75000-$85000 including benefits commensurate with experience
