General Summary
The Conservation EducationFellow is a 10-month learning opportunity for emerging professionalsinterested in informal education and conservation. Fellows deliver engagingSTEM-based programming to Zoo audiences with a focus on school field tripgroups. Programs are conducted both in person and virtually. This positionsupports the Zoos mission by fostering curiosity inspiring conservationaction and delivering inclusive meaningful learning experiences to allguests.
The Fellow will gain hands-onexperience in program delivery animal handling interpretation andconservation communication while contributing new ideas and creativity to ourteam. This role also aligns with the Zoos broader goals in conservationsustainability education and DEAI (Diversity Equity Accessibility andInclusion).
FellowshipDetails
- Duration: September 2025 June 2026
- Schedule: Monday Friday 8:30 AM 4:30 PM
Primary Responsibilities
ProgramDelivery
- Deliver in-person and virtualeducation programs using hands-on activities conservation-themed materials andanimal ambassadors.
- Present 45 days/week withan average of 5 hours of on-grounds programming per day.
- Handle all aspects of programexecution including setup presentation and breakdown.
ProgramDevelopment & Support
- Assist in developing andrefining program content tailored to school groups and diverse audiences.
- Participate one day/week intraining materials preparation and resource maintenance.
- Help maintain educationsupplies spaces and equipment.
AnimalHandling
- Learn and maintain animalhandling competencies as outlined by the Zoos Animal Handling Guidelines.
Technology& Communication
- Use presentation technologyconfidently (e.g. tablets webinar platforms microphones document cameras).
- Communicate professionallywith guests school groups staff and volunteers.
- Provide exceptional guestservice and uphold Zoo standards for engagement.
ProfessionalDevelopment
- Participate in ongoingtraining and mentorship in interpretation conservation messaging and DEAIpractices.
- Collaborate with Zoo staffeducators and volunteers to continuously improve programming.
- Build relationships withprofessionals at partner institutions to stay current on best practices ininformal education.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelors degree in BiologyEnvironmental Sciences Education or related field required.
Experience
- Public speaking or teachingexperience preferred.
- Understanding of formaleducation standards.
- Animal handling experience isa plus; training will be provided.
- Working knowledge of GoogleWorkspace and Microsoft Office.

Equipment
- Mustbe able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including computertelephone scanner copier two-way radio golf cart vehicles hand toolsgardening/carpentry tools computer etc.
Working Conditions
- Standing (up to 8 hours perday) walking (6 hours per day) sitting (up to 8 hours per day);
- Must be able to walk largeareas of the Zoo as needed;
- Must be able to exert up to50 pounds of force to lift push pull carry or otherwise move objects;
- Ability to use senses tomonitor animal health;
- Must be able to work forextended periods of time in an outdoor weather environment in all seasons andweather including heat/humidity cold temperatures and/or wet conditions;
- Daily contact with plants andanimals including being subject to bites stings and scrapes;
- Ability to travel (car/van)as needed - locally and/or state-wide;
- Ability to drive golf cartand large cargo van with appropriate license; and
- Clean background check anddriving record.
