Are you excited about building the critical backend services that power one of the worlds most popular voice assistants At Alexa Mobile Foundation Services were developing the infrastructure that enables Alexa to function flawlessly on mobile platforms worldwide handling millions of requests daily while maintaining exceptional performance and reliability.
Our team builds and maintains the essential Java-based services that form the backbone of the Alexa mobile experience. We handle massive scale with strict latency requirements and 99.99% availability. Our infrastructure leverages the full power of AWS cloud services to deliver resilient efficient solutions that Alexa mobile clients depend on 24/7.
The foundation services we develop are critical to Alexas mobile presence enabling everything from device authentication to enabling new features. Our work directly impacts how customers interact with Alexa across iOS Android and other platforms.
Key job responsibilities
The ideal candidate will design and develop high-performance Java microservices that power critical Alexa mobile functionality implementing scalable backend solutions using AWS services. Youll create and optimize RESTful APIs consumed by mobile applications while implementing comprehensive monitoring and alerting systems to ensure 99.99% availability.
This role requires collaborating cross-functionally with mobile client teams and other backend services to define technical specifications and drive architecture decisions. The successful candidate is clearly passionate about delivering experiences that delight customers and creating robust scalable solutions with exceptional technical expertise in distributed systems. A commitment to teamwork strong communication skills (with both business and technical partners) and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where learning new concepts quickly is essential.
A day in the life
As you design and code solutions to help our team drive efficiencies in software architecture youll create metrics implement automation and other improvements and resolve the root cause of software defects. You will also be mentoring other engineers on the team.
- 5 years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5 years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5 years of leading design or architecture (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor tech lead or leading an engineering team
- 5 years of full software development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing and operations experience
- Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity sign-on payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
