Description of Job

Temporary Security are called to work on an as-needed basis for campus security; there are no set hours or guarantee of hours. Temporary - Security positions are responsible to work as a team to maintain a safe environment for students and staff. Campus safety includes insuring a safe physical environment through visitor management building safety building security and proper staff and student training and safety drills. Duties include but are not limited to:

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • One (1) full year of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position; i.e. law enforcement experience or security experience in a school / residential / hospital / institutional setting. NOTE: One (1) full year of experience is equivalent to 2080 hours.All experience must be described in detail on the (on-line) application to receive credit.
CONDITIONS OFEMPLOYMENT:
  • Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force following appropriate safety procedures; Ability to control others (body strength and agility of all four limbs is necessary); Walking / standing more than 60% of time; Ability to effectively manage volatile situations.
  • Security positions atCSDBare designated as essential services positions and the persons selected for these positions are required to be on duty to perform essential and/or emergency services of the State / school without delay or interruption to ensure health safety and welfare regardless of inclement weather conditions.
  • Possession of a current valid State of Colorado Identification Card. Please provide a copy with application.
  • Direct deposit of paycheck is required.
  • CSDBis a non-smoking facility in its entirety.
  • Selected applicants must comply with the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind Drug-Free Workplace Policy and other policies.
  • As required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) selected applicant must verify within 72 hours of employment his / her legal right to be employed in the United States.
  • Selected applicant(s) will be required to submit to and pass a background check to include Colorado and Federal criminal history checks employment verification and professional/personal reference checks. Applicants must be without any felony convictions of a nature that would disqualify an applicants fitness for employment in accordance with Article 5 Sectionof the Colorado Revised Statutes (CRS).
Additional Requirements
  • Knowledge of and ability to assess and apply technology to perform the requirements of the position; ability to effectively utilize a variety of computer software applications which may include but is not limited to e-mail Internet word processing electronic calendar presentation development spreadsheet database etc.;willingness to stay current and develop skills as needed with or without direct support from CSDB.
  • Ability to work effectively with students / staff who are Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing Blind/Visually Impairedand/or Deafblind.
  • Ability to respond effectively and positively to feedback; ability to participate effectively in a team setting and to work independently; strong interpersonal and communication skills; effective organizational skills; effective problem-solving skills.
  • A courteous professional and helpful attitude in the role of CSDB representative.
