Toole Design Group is looking to hire an experienced and talented full-time Project Engineer to join our team in Albuquerque NM. Youll be working alongside a dedicated group of planners and engineers from around the Western US. Toole Design in Albuquerque
Toole Design has had a regular presence in Albuquerque since 2022 and performs a mix of work in Albuquerque around the state and in support of Toole Design offices around the western US. Our projects include trails planning and design corridor studies bicycle and pedestrian master plans transit planning and other multimodal and safety planning efforts.
A Day in the Life of a Project Engineer
Youll help plan and design multimodal transportation projects ranging from urban streetscapes to signature trails. Using tools like AutoCAD or MicroStation youll produce high-quality construction documents and support projects through all phases from concept development and public engagement feasibility studies and concept plans to permitting and construction management. Youll work closely with clients communities and a supportive team across the Southeast and North America to deliver infrastructure that makes a difference. The work can be fast-paced and challenging but youll be supported by a passionate tight-knit team thats deeply committed to each other and the communities we serve.
We are targeting a salary range of $80000 to $105000 for this position. Candidates with a PE may fall into a different range.
Work Schedule for a Project Engineer
This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home up to 2 days per week. The Toole Design Albuquerque team shares a coworking space located Downtown.

Qualifications of a Project Engineer:
- Bachelors or masters degree in civil engineering (focus on transportation engineering is a plus)
- Professional Engineering license or expectation of acquiring the PE license in the next 12-18 months
- 5 years of experience; project management experience preferred
- A broad knowledge base in transportation engineering with a focus on street design roadway safety for all users and development of concept drawings
- Knowledge of horizontal and vertical roadway geometric design (MUTCD and AASHTO)
- Experience with MicroStation (including OpenRoads) or AutoCAD (including Civil 3D) proficiency preferred
- Experience coordinating utility right-of-way street lighting traffic signals and landscape and hardscape layout
- Strong writing skills and experience working as a support and/or lead writer for planning documents and studies
- Interest in multimodal transportation issues and design (specifically for bicycle pedestrian Safe Routes to School Complete Streets Vision Zero and/or transit integration)
It would be a plus if you had any of the following:
- Exposure to construction or construction observation
- Understanding of MUTCD and AASHTO standards
- Experience with ArcGIS and/or QGIS
- Experience in Complete Streets bikeways sidewalks and crossing designs
- Experience developing conceptual designs for intersections and corridors
- Experience developing construction documents and cost estimates
- Knowledge of transportation planning processes and an interest in managing planning-level studies
- Knowledge of traffic analysis principles and software such as SYNCHRO
- Knowledge of NMDOT Design Manual and Location Study Procedures
