COLORADO STATE PATROL
The mission of the Colorado State Patrol is to ensure a safe and secure environment for all persons by utilizing the strengths of its members and providing professional law enforcement services that reflect honor duty and respect. Through high visibility strict enforcement maximum resource deployment and community education the CSP promotes safety protects lives and preserves state highways using the programs described below:- Traffic Safety - enforces motor vehicle and all other Colorado laws on 8400 miles of highway and 57000 miles of county roads including selective enforcement actions saturation patrols crash investigations and educational safety programs.
- Communications - provides a professional communications system for members of the Patrol other state local and federal agencies and Colorado residents.
- Criminal Interdiction and Automobile Theft - proactively investigates motor vehicle theft and related offenses inspects Vehicle Identification Numbers interdicts illegal drugs and gathers intelligence to support state and national homeland security efforts.
- Hazardous Materials Enforcement - enforces permitting and routing rules develops safe transportation rules and regulations and provides timely response and mitigation for hazardous materials events on-roadways.
- Executive and Capitol Security - provides 24-hour security at the State Capitol and Capitol Complex and security for the Governor First Family visiting dignitaries and public demonstrations.
- Smuggling and Trafficking Interdiction Section - enforces the states human smuggling and human trafficking laws on Colorado roadways.
- Port of Entry and Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program - collaborates with industry to support safe transport of materials on commercial motor carriers in Colorado.
- Aircraft Program - supports traffic enforcement activities and transports state officials and employees.
- Victims Assistance - provides direct services to victims of highway traffic crimes in accordance with the Victim Rights Act.
ABOUT THE WORK UNITThis work unit exists to be the central repository for all law enforcement records created by the Colorado State Patrol. This includes the day-to-day activities of maintenance retrieval protection retention and destruction of agency law enforcement records.
ABOUT THE JOB
Under supervision of the records supervisor this position serves in an operational capacity as the central records technician. Provides direct service internally to CSP criminal justice agencies and District Attorneys. Performs the day-to-day activities of the Central Records Unit including the maintenance retrieval protection retention and destruction of agency records; ensures work quality and adherence to established written directives; and performs the more technical and complex tasks to the assigned area of responsibility.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
RECORDS MANAGEMENT
Under general supervision is responsible for confidential complex administrative work involving input retrieval research update and filing purging of criminal and other law enforcement records. Works with multiple formats of documents including print electronic and digital. May work closely with local state and federal law enforcement agencies and judicial districts. This position responds to and processes criminal justice records requests following the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act (CCJRA) and the Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) includingbut not limited to: records of official action investigative reports and subsequent documents and digital media. Ensures the release of records is in accordance with state and federal statutes. Collects fees for records requests and prepares and issues receipts.

Communicate appropriately with members internal and external partners using any available format. When required attends hearings and provides complete and accurate testimony. Demonstrates an awareness of the cultural diversity of the community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Two years of professional experience in records management with confidential or sensitive information.
OR
Bachelors Degree in any field from an accredited institution.
SUBSTITUTIONS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Experience in law enforcement.
- Experience with multiple media platforms/players.
- Experience with managing law enforcement confidential records.
- Highly skilled in standard computer operating systems and software (Adobe Acrobat Windows Microsoft Office-Excel Word PowerPoint; Google Products-Gmail Google-Docs Sheets etc.) with a strong ability to learn new software.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT- Must be a Colorado resident at the time of application.
- Requires successful completion of a background investigation that includes a polygraph examination a fingerprint based criminal history search and drug testing.
- Completion or ability to complete the Colorado Certified Records Network (CCRN) Master Records Technician Certification program within one year of appointment.
