The P-TECH College Transition Advisor serves as an intermediary between Rochester Community and Technical College and Rochester Public Schools through the P-TECH program. The Transition Advisor will strengthen student performance and expand students horizons through postsecondary educational opportunities and career goals. Working together with the college and school personnel the Transition Advisor seeks to maintain and develop collaborations that serve to better prepare students for college and careers while fostering mutual learning among the faculty staff and students at the partnering institutions. The Transition Advisor is instrumental in facilitating students progress and success by ensuring that appropriate collaborative support mechanisms are in place at both the college and the high school location(s).
Principle Responsibilities and Results
1. Develop implement and coordinate activities that build relationships with students enrolled in P-TECH to ensure seamless registration transition and retention within the P-TECH program. Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the P-TECH program including entrance requirements graduation requirements for both secondary and post-secondary courses providing registration support and advising for post-secondary courses. Work with P-TECH partners to establish holistic approach to student advisement and support services. Lead all activities related to registration enrollment and academic advisement. Participate in continual communication with the colleges instructional staff regarding student performance early identification of academic risk and connect P-TECH students with college resources as needed. Oversee distribution and collection of college coursework materials including textbooks.
2. Coordinate and implement programs to introduce P-TECH students to college environment and support systems within the college environment such as biannual orientation programs for students and parents outlining expectations procedures policies and criteria for the students successful completion of the college coursework college speakers trips to college offices non-academic events connected to the college. Plan and participate in events that promote college readiness (i.e. High School Night College Night FAFSA Sessions) and academic celebrations (i.e. High School Awards Nights Prospective Student Open Houses).
3. Collaborate with the college industry partners and school district on the monitoring and evaluation of program data to assess student progress and to make recommendations to improve student achievement to fulfill the programs mission (i.e. improvement of a college readiness program academic support services and completion of college coursework). Report data to Steering Committee and/or Planning Committees. All student data will be summarized at the end of each semester and annually to the school district college industry partners and key administrators.
4. Perform other duties as assigned and participate in various task groups/committees to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.
Salary Range:
$23.63 - $34.18 / hour
