Job Description

Class Title:Assistant Director of Pupil Personnel ServicesDepartment:AdministrationClassification: Administrator 12 monthsImmediate Supervisor:Director of Pupil Personnel Services CLASS DESCRIPTIONAssists the Director of Pupil Personnel Services and serves as the day-to-day primary subject matter expert/responsible leader for ensuring the efficient operation of the East Providence School Departments Pupil Personnel Services Office; assist the Director of Pupil Personnel Services to ensure all services the Pupil Personnel Services Office provides are optimal and complies with all local policies and procedures and with all state and federal regulations pertaining to special education students. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Serve as the designee for the Director of Pupil Personnel Services as the implementation of the districts specialized learning programsVisit schools on a regular basis to provide consultation and supportPromote the educational development and wellbeing of all special needs students in the school services to students parentally placed in private schools. This includes LEA responsibilities and other duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Personnel cooperatively with families teachers administrators and community agencies to ensure appropriate educational programs for students with evaluation teams and direct the activities of teams as described in Regulations of the Board of Regents for Elementary and Secondary Education Governing the Special Education of Students with Disabilities and IDEA 2004Assist the Director of Pupil Personnel Services in ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations with regard to special education current knowledge in the area of vocational/career assessment and transition current and specific information in the area of diagnostic assessment and as the LEA Chair at weekly evaluation team meetings and IEP meetings as needed or scheduledAssist building administrators in the facilitation of Evaluation Teams Manifestation Determinations and IEP meetings to ensure timeline compliance of special education referrals and reevaluations; facilitates parental and staff cooperation and administrative input to the special education the Director of Pupil Personnel Services in supervising coordinating and monitoring of programming for all students identified as having disabilities in local education programs and out of district in the implementation of relevant curriculum program planning and professional development for teachers and the Director of Pupil Personnel Services to successfully fulfill his/her fiduciary responsibility regarding expenditures by assisting in forecasting expenses budgeting for and ensuring proper use of all the Director of Pupil Personnel Services in developing and implementing programs to ensure that parents are well informed and their input is fully considered regarding programs placement and specialized assistance/staffing/instructional facilitate and oversee the scheduling of extended school year programming including staffing class lists transportation forms current and informed on laws issues and new developments related to literacy special education teacher support teams and differentiated instruction. Assume responsibility for own professional growth and development; remain current with the literature new research findings and improved techniques; and appropriate professional technical/professional assistance to building administrators/principals in the supervision of special education teacher technical/professional input to and collaborations with building administrators/principals in the evaluation of special education and facilitate special education at designated schools in collaboration with building administrators/principals or their all other duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Personnel ServicesKNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIESDemonstrated knowledge of and ability to use computer technology as it relates to job a thorough knowledge of requirements and successful implementation methods for IDEA ADA Section 504 Medicaid Support Census Programs and Child Outreach Programs. A strong working knowledge of requirements and successful implementation methods for successful ESL/ELL Guidance and Nursing ability (through interviews resume and reference checks) to perform the responsibilities of the position as evidenced by course work educational experience professional experience school-level involvement and/or district-wide professional QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience:Master degree requiredHold a Rhode Island Department of Education certificate in Special Education and Administrator of Special Education. At least ten years of successful teaching experience in the area of Special Education preferred. At least three years of experience in or related to the administration or supervision of Special Education least 10 years of relevant administrative experience preferredBuilding administrator certification preferredPHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The use of a step stool may be required to reach the top drawer of a filing cabinet as necessary.
