The pay range for this position is listed below. Actual pay rate dependent upon experience.

$60840.00 - $100880.00

Position Highlights

This position will include working within the Sioux Falls School System and will include elementary middle school and/or high school students and staff providing outpatient mental health therapy services coordinating adolescent DBT/CBT groups and being a point of contact for assigned school location and Avera. This position will include identifying and completing intake services for referred students. This position will be .83 FTE and require therapist to work FT hours during academic calendar and 1 day a week TBD during non-academic calendar June-August. Annual retention bonus will be provided to qualified and eligible candidates who remain for duration of programming. Therapist will work in conjunction with public school district to provide mental health services.

This position is eligible for an $8000 sign on bonus over 24 months!

Student Loan Repayment: This position may be eligible for Averas Student Loan Repayment Program which helps you pay off your loans and save money. Each month an extra payment of $167 (up to $10000) from Avera will help you pay down your principal balance faster.

A Brief Overview

Assists in coordinating planning implementing and facilitating programs and counseling services on an outpatient basis. The Outpatient Therapists responsibilities may include several of the following areas: individual group and family counseling crisis services/evaluation tele-therapy services and current and future groups/programs. All of these areas may involve providing assessments facilitating treatment and crisis intervention of clientele affected by mental health or dual diagnoses issues. Providing community/education services will be a part of this position and some travel is occasionally required.

What you will do

  • Coordinates a clinical treatment program for the diagnosis treatment or referral of clients/patients presenting moderate to severe social adjustment problems.
  • Adheres to policies which assure the confidentiality of client communications.
  • Provides for a multi-disciplinary holistic approach to the treatment of clients coordinating same with appropriate hospital departments.
  • Conducts individual family or group therapy sessions in accordance with accepted principles of the National Association of Social Workers.
  • Assesses progress of clients/patients and modify or extend treatment program accordingly. Coordinates care of clients/patients with referring physician or agency.
  • Documents therapy in accordance with hospital policies and procedures on medical records.
  • Intervenes as a crisis counselor in situations requiring immediate psychological treatment such as substance abuse suicide attempts psychotic episodes and other instances as outlined in hospital policy.
  • Refers client or patient to outside agencies where appropriate.
  • Communicates with family members/significant others in order to further the effectiveness of client/patient treatment and progress.
  • Coordinates client/patient billing and modify treatment program in accordance with insurance coverage plan provisions and individual ability to pay. Provides educational programs on a variety of psychological topics to hospital/community groups as requested.


Essential Qualifications

The individual must be able to work the hours specified. To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily including having visual acuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability to communicate effectively with others hear understand and distinguish speech and other sounds. Required Education License/Certification or Work Experience:

  • Masters
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) - Licensing Board An active license in the state of practice Upon Hire or
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) - Licensing Board An active license in the state of practice Upon Hire and
  • Qualified Mental Health Provider (QMHP) - Licensing Board An active license in the state of practice within 30 Days


Preferred Education License/Certification or Work Experience:

  • 3 years related experience and/or training
  • Clinical experience facilitating group therapy sessions and providing individuals counseling services
  • Experience working with clients having dual diagnoses issues (addictive disorders in conjunction with mental health conditions)
  • Clinical experience with couples and/or family therapy
