TheMontana Department of Transportationis recruiting aVegetation and Noxious Weed Spray Foreman in Kalispell. This position performs a variety of work as a laborer equipment operator and truck driver in conjunction with lead worker duties as a vegetation manager and noxious weed spray foreman. Has knowledge of union contracts. Participates in the coordination and delivery of the Division Area vegetation and roadside management the growing season (pre and post) performs work as an herbicide spray truck operator/driver and oversees minor repairs and calibration of the herbicide spray truck equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Successful applicant must live or relocate within 45 miles of the work headquarters and must have a telephone or be reasonably accessible to the section headquarters.

Other Qualifications:

Requires knowledge of noxious and nuisance weed identification restricted herbicide application and storage procedures and the calibration and maintenance of equipment typically assigned to herbicide management operations herbicide safe handling procedures. Knowledge of state weed laws applying to roadside vegetation management basic math and record keeping procedures.

Requires the ability to manage and train employees to apply herbicide per state law. Ability to communicate effectively with staff state and local agencies and the public.

A working knowledge of the Maintenance Manual the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standard drawings traffic engineering manual and traffic control administration in conjunction with contracted weed control and assigns on-site work and instructs trains mentors and monitors staff on roadside vegetation management procedures and operations.

Other Information

House Bill 13 passed by the 2025 State Legislature increased state employee base pay for by $1.00 per hour or 2.5% whichever is greater beginning July 1 2025. The advertised pay rate includes this increase.
