THE HOSPITALS:When you need critical medical care whether a surgery laboratory work bringing a new life into the world or for those unexpected emergencies you can trust your neighborhood hospitals Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) and Santa Paula Hospital to address your needs VCMC is a fully-integrated comprehensive system of hospital clinic and specialty services. The system provides access to health care to all residents of our county with special emphasis on providing access to care for the underserved and those facing barriers. Santa Paula Hospital offers a comprehensive list of inpatient and outpatient services and full-service departments for diagnostic procedure treatment aftercare and ongoing care.

THE POSITION: Under general supervision the Diagnostic Technician performs a variety of responsible and skilled diagnostic imaging procedures for hospital patients. This role involves operating specialized diagnostic equipment to produce high-quality images of various areas of the body assisting medical staff in patient care and adhering to established protocols to ensure accurate and complete data collection and documentation. The technician is also responsible for maintaining a clean safe and organized work environment.


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented able to follow established protocols for accurate patient data collection and recording and maintain a safe and clean work environment. They should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work independently as well as part of a team. A strong commitment to continuous learning and staying up to date with advances in diagnostic imaging technology and techniques is desired.

AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency Ventura County Medical Center/Santa Paula Hospital

Diagnostic Technician is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and is eligible for overtime compensation.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Intermittent vacancies within the Health Care Agency. There is currently one (1) vacancy.


This is an intermittent (as-needed) position with work scheduled to supplement staffing needs based on operational demands.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
OPENING DATE: July 02 2025
CLOSING DATE:Continuous and may close at any time; therefore the schedule for the remainder of the process will depend upon when we receive enough qualified applications to meet business needs. It is to your advantage to apply as soon as possible.

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists Cardiologist with stress testing andadministers electrocardiograms (EKG) Holter/event monitors thallium treadmill stress testing and electroencephalograms (EEG);
  • Prepares patient for exam and/or procedures
  • Maintains supplies for tests;
  • Checks diagnostic equipment for safety;
  • Maintains clean and safe patient areas;
  • Demonstrates adherence to and observes all safety policies and procedures;
  • Coordinates tests with physician schedules;
  • Keeps appropriate records;
  • Prepares clear and accurate reports; and
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Typical Qualifications

These are entrance requirements to the examination process and ensure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.

EDUCATION TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of experience in a medical health service environment in a job that has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge skills and abilitiesOR One (1) year of experience utilizing diagnostic equipment to perform diagnostic procedures or other related experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing and able to work an Intermittent schedule as described in the job posting.
  • Must be able to handle frequent standing bending reaching squatting and kneeling and the ability to move position and lift patients and/or equipment to perform diagnostic procedures.
  • Must have and maintain a current valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross by the time of hire.
  • Intermediate to advanced level proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of:
  • Diagnostic procedures and equipment;
  • Medical terminology and procedures;
  • Human anatomy and physiology; and
  • Patient care protocols;

Skill in the following:
  • Observation skills to monitor tests and patients; and
  • Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word skills.

Working ability to:
  • Perform appropriate diagnostic procedures;
  • Use various computer programs/applications;
  • Communicate information/instructions clearly in a written oral or visual manner; and
  • Work effectively with patients and staff.

WRITTEN EXAMINATION - 100%: A job-related written examination will be administered to test candidates knowledge of roles and responsibilities Holter monitor EEG event monitor EKG treadmills and general medical/workplace knowledge. Candidates must earn a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher to qualify for placement on the eligible list.

Applicants successfully completing the examination process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year.
