Located 20km west of Sydney on Dharug country with a population of 240000 residents Cumberland City Council is the fourth most populous Local Government Area in Greater Sydney. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Engineering and Building team sits within the Environment and Planning Directorate and focuses on services and advice in relation to engineering and building activities in the Cumberland area. The team is responsible for the delivery of engineering assessment infrastructure design traffic and transport stormwater and flooding and building assessment.
We have an exciting term contract opportunity within the team for an enthusiastic Senior Design Engineer to assist the Engineering and Building team by way of quality engineering design work relating to road stormwater drainage and traffic functions.
The successful applicant will require:
- Degree in Civil Engineering or similar and 5 years experience in Civil Infrastructure Design
- Eligible to become or a current member of Institution of Engineers Australia
- Sound working experience in assessment of engineering plans
- Extensive experience using AutoCAD Civil3D AutoTURN and MS applications specifically for design purposes in the preparation of associated documentation
- Experience in Local Government Engineering or Consultancy work specialising in Engineering Design
- Extensive experience in using surveying equipment including Total Station
- Ability to meet deadlines on a daily basis
- Excellent time management skills
- Highly developed design skills
- Highly developed problem-solving skills
- Effective report writing & oral communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with other staff and/or consultants on special projects
- Hold current General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
- Class C drivers licence.

About this role:
- Term contract full-time position for a period of up to three (3) years
- 70 hour fortnight
- Access to Councils 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO)
- Located at Councils Auburn office with frequent travel required across Council worksites and may be required to work across any of Councils work locations
Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.
- Grade 13 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $2101.36 to $2416.56 per week plus 12% superannuation (please note this salary range and superannuation percentage will apply from the first pay period in July 2025)
- The commencing salary will be negotiated taking into consideration the successful applicants qualifications skills and experience related to the role
- Car allowance of $11608.48 per annum or a leaseback vehicle
- Civil Liabilities Allowance of 3.5%

What youll need to have for this role:
- The right to live and work in Australia
- Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
- Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Councils Health Monitoring Procedure as required
- Provide evidence of your vaccination status as part of the employment screening process in accordance with Councils COVID-19 Vaccination Procedure.
