Inspects orchards farms nurseries mills apiaries and plant shipments for agricultural pests and diseases and ensures adequate plant pest quarantine measures are taken.
Monitors pesticide use by commercial applicators including types of pesticides used and application techniques.
Inspects and enforces agricultural product standards for fruits vegetables and eggs.
Inspects produce cases nursery stock commodities and other packaged goods weighing 25 pounds or more.
Inspects tests seals or condemns weighing and measuring devices used in commercial transactions.
Inspects shipments for compliance with labeling weighing and measuring codes issues inspection certificates.
Performs test purchases or sales to verify accurate weight or measure.
Gathers and compiles information and prepares reports issues citations or violations and collects appropriate fees.
Maintains records and prepares reports on inspections pest control activities and related matters.
Uses a variety of hand-held or other equipment such as but not limited to refractometers scales graduated measures hydrometers and laptopor tabletcomputers.
Receives and provides training in the safe and effective use of various tools and equipment utilized in any inspection investigation or enforcement activities that may be assigned.
Uses a variety of mathematical formulae including algebra.
Acts as a witness in administrative criminal and civil cases.
Responds to inquiries and complaints from other agencies and the public.

OPTION I:A Bachelors degree from an accredited* college or university with specialization in one or more appropriate disciplines in agricultural science biological science chemical science physical science mathematics and/or statistics**-AND- One (1) year of experience**** at the level of the Los Angeles County class of Associate Agricultural/Weights & Measures lnspector***** performing agricultural or weights and measures inspection functions for a public jurisdiction.*
OPTION II: A Bachelors degree from an accredited* college or university with specialization in any discipline with a minimum of 30 semester units or equivalent (e.g. 45 quarter units) in one or any combination of the following disciplines: agricultural science biological science chemical science physical science mathematics and/or statistics**-AND- One (1) year of experience**** at the Level of the Los Angeles County class of Associate Agricultural/Weights & Measures lnspector***** performing agricultural or weights and measures inspections for a public jurisdiction.
WITHHOLDS OR OUT-OF-CLASS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION MUST BE FULLY MET AT THE TIME OF FILING AND CLEARLY INDICATED ON THE APPLICATION.
LICENSE:
A valid State of California weights & measures license*** in either Weight Verification or Measurement Verification -AND- A valid State of California agricultural license*** in Pest Prevention and Plant Regulation.-AND-A valid California Class C Driver License****** is required to perform job-related essential functions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
* Accredited colleges and universities include all four-year colleges and universities that meet the accreditation guidelines indicated on the bulletin.
** To receive credit for your education include a copy of your official diploma official transcript or letter/certificate from an accredited institution. The document must clearly demonstrate the degree(s) you are in the process of obtaining or have already obtained. For Option II an official transcript demonstrating the required unit must be included. If your degree was already conferred the document should show the date the degree was conferred. The document must be in English; if it is in a foreign language it must be translated and evaluated for equivalency to U.S. standards. Transcripts from foreign universities will be accepted ONLY if evaluated and deemed to be equivalent to degrees from United States accredited institutions by an academic credential evaluation agency recognized by The National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or Association of International Credential Evaluation Inc. (AICE). A transcript submitted that is expressed in a language other than English will NOT be accepted and may result in your application being rejected. ***** Experience at the level of the Los Angeles County class of Associate Agricultural/Weights & Measures lnspector is defined as assisting in and learning inspection and enforcement activities related to Federal State and local agricultural and/or weights and measures laws regulations ordinances and policies for the protection of the environment and constituent groups such as consumers agriculture and industry. ******Driver License Information:Successful applicants for positions that require driving must obtain and present a copy of their drivers license and driving record from the California State Department of Motor and Vehicles before final appointment. Applicants should not present a copy of their driving history until asked to do so by the hiring department. The County will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicants driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. License must not be currently suspended restricted or revoked.
VETERANS CREDIT:If you are a veteran you may be eligible for veterans credit which is an additional 10% of the total points added to a passing score. We will need a copy of your form DD214 to review so please include that in your application or email it to the exam analyst at.
PHYSICAL CLASS IV - ARDUOUS:This class involves frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds often combined with bending twisting or working above ground on irregular surfaces. It includes those positions that occasionally demand extraordinary physical activity such as those in Safety positions.
EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of a multiple-choice and/or simulation assessment(s) weighted100% covering:Customer Focus Learning Potential Responsibility Working with Information Verbal Ability and Professional/Technical Expertise.
The passing score for the assessment part is 70%. Candidates who passed the assessment(s) are placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months. We will use this list to fill vacancies as they occur. Your score will be valid for twelve (12) months from the date of your assessment results notice.
MULTIPLE-CHOICE AND/OR SIMULATION ASSESSMENTS ARE NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.
TRANSFER OF TEST COMPONENTS:If you have taken identical components recently for other exams responses may be automatically transferred to this examination. This exam contains test components that might be used on future exams and responses could be transferred to that exam.

We provide study guides and other test preparation resources to help candidates prepare for employment tests. While the guides may help in preparing for the test we recommend reviewing all related materials that seem necessary.
