Landscaping plays a key role in shaping our urban neighbourhoods and is a primary determinant of our citys environmental financial and social sustainability. The development industry supports this sustainability by contributing $13 million annually in landscaping infrastructure to the City of Edmonton through the development process. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the quality and compliance of developer-contributed landscaping assets transferred to the City. This independent role safeguards the Citys interests by auditing construction recommending asset acceptance or rejection and reviewing maintenance practices.
Apply your landscaping knowledge and exercise sound judgment to mitigate risks facilitate timely project approvals and ensure that new landscape infrastructure meets City standards for long-term performance and public benefit. This position is crucial for the successful integration of private development projects into the Citys green infrastructure network.
What will you do:
- Conduct field audits on landscaping municipal improvements during construction and establishment periods
- Assist with on-site inspections for Construction Completion Certificate (CCC) and Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC) submissions
- Review submitted CCC and FAC documentation including as-builts and plant material records
- Assist with 311 inquiries and City departments regarding inspection processes and landscaping requirements
- Minimum completion of a two (2) year technology diploma in Urban Forestry Horticulture Landscape Technology Landscape Construction or related field
- A minimum of two (2) years of related experience
OR
- Journeyman Landscape Horticulturist and 2 years experience in landscape construction
Assets:
- Certification from International Society of Arboriculture (ISA)
- Journeyman Landscape Gardener certification
- Certification in GIS mapping
Skills required for success:
- Extensive knowledge of landscaping construction practices methodologies and landscape design principles
- Technical expertise in identifying weeds pests and diseases
- In-depth knowledge of City of Edmonton guiding documents including Landscape Inspection Guidelines Landscape Design and Construction Standards (Vol 5) Development Servicing Agreements and Topsoil Specifications
- Demonstrated ability to interpret landscape construction plans for auditing and inspecting construction progress in alignment with City of Edmonton standards and policies
- Strong proficiency in computer applications digital filing systems Google Docs Gmail SAP and Pictometry
- Strong interpersonal skills for building and maintaining productive working relationships with industry stakeholders including consultants developers contractors and internal City of Edmonton staff
- Excellent communication technical writing and negotiation skills essential for ensuring compliance with City policies and procedures
- Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail ensuring documentation verification and assessment are conducted thoroughly and efficiently
- Strong research and problem-solving skills to gather necessary information make informed decisions and develop recommendations
- Ability to represent the City of Edmonton in a professional honest respectful and safe manner
- Capacity to ensure compliance with City policies and procedures while effectively managing multiple tasks and responsibilities

Conditions of Employment:
- A valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent) is a requirement of this position
- You will be required to arrange your own transportation for use while on City business. Where appropriate you will be reimbursed for expenses related to that travel in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. You will be required to obtain business auto insurance
- Compliance with the City of Edmontons safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as wearing steel toed boots is a requirement for this position
- Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position. There may be a cost associated with this requirement

- This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52

Hours of Work:
This position requires you to work different hours per week at defined periods of the year
- Regular Season: 33.75 hours per week
- Peak Season: 40 hours per week Hours of work and work schedule will vary and may be subject to 40 hours per week approximately from June to November
Salary Range:
- Regular Season: $34.310 - $43.098 (Hourly); $60445.64 - $75927.90 (Annually)
- Peak Season: $32.424 - $40.727 (Hourly); $67701.31 - $85037.98 (Annually)
Salary ranges are in the process of being updated in accordance with the recently ratified collective agreement between the City and CSU 52 and will be forthcoming shortly.
