Job Description

Are you a detail-oriented Civil or Environmental Engineer or Technologist/Technician with a passion for sustainable solutions and a strong head for numbers If you enjoy problem-solving working with data and want to make a lasting environmental impactthis role may be a great fit for you.

Burnside is currently seeking a motivated professional to join our Solid Waste Management team in Pickering. Youll be part of a collaborative group working to deliver thoughtful practical and forward-thinking solutions to clients across Ontario.

What Youll Be Doing

In this role youll contribute to the planning design and monitoring of waste management systems including support for long-term master plans Environmental Assessments and strategies for diversion and disposal. Much of the work involves data analysis calculations and detailed documentationso strong math and analytical skills are a must. Youll see projects through from the concept phase to implementation knowing your contributions help communities operate more sustainably.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing technical proposals assessments design plans tender packages and project reports
  • Supporting regulatory communications and applications
  • Conducting site monitoring and providing training on waste operations
  • Engaging in solid waste planning permitting and facility implementation
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to meet project goals

What You Bring to the Role

  • A degree or diploma in Civil or Environmental Engineering or Technology
  • Excellent math analytical and critical thinking skillsyoure comfortable working with data spreadsheets and detailed calculations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (especially Excel)
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks or projects
  • Clear and professional communicationboth written and verbal
  • Ability to travel occasionally to client sites or other Burnside offices

Its a bonus if you have:

  • Experience in solid waste management or with a consulting engineering firm
  • Knowledge of composting recycling or waste processing technologies
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Understanding of environmental legislation and contaminant hydrogeology
