Job Description

We are currently hiring for multiple Nurse Home Visitor positions

This position in based in Dubbo.

Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (WACHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation that aims to empower Aboriginal people to take control of their individual family and community health and wellbeing needs through our clinical and community programs.

Our main services are in Wellington Dubbo Moree Western Sydney Penrith Nepean and Blue Mountains and we provide outreach services to other towns and communities through our regional programs.

The Australian Family Partnership Program (AFPP) is an evidence-based program for women pregnant with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander baby. The AFPP Nurse Home Visitor (RN and/or RM) works closely with the Aboriginal Family Partnership Worker to deliver culturally safe responsive and respectful home visits to these women and their families in Dubbo Wellington Narromine and Gilgandra. AFPP is the Australian adaptation of the Nurse-Family Partnership. For information regarding the Nurse-Family Partnership please visit are currently seeking full time and part time Registered Nurses and/or Midwives who meet the below selection criteria:

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Midwife with the AHPRA
  • Knowledge and understanding of the issues that impact on Aboriginal people and Aboriginal communities
  • An understanding of the principles of primary health care and strengths based models of care
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including intermediate computer skills and ability to use Patient Information Systems and Microsoft Windows based programs
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team demonstrating efficient time management skills
  • Willingness to collaborate with Aboriginal Family Partnership Workers Aboriginal Health Workers and other Aboriginal staff to build and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients and their families.

Desirable Selection Criteria:

  • Completion of postgraduate qualifications in Child and Family Health Mental Health Public Health or Health Promotion.
  • Experience in motivational interviewing parent child interaction/dyadic assessment.
  • Experience working within the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health sector.

Mandatory requirements:

  • Evidence of compliance with NSW Guidelines around Occupational Assessment Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases (Category A)
  • Working with Children and Criminal Record check clearances
  • NSW Drivers License
