About the Role:

The Social & Emotional Wellbeing Caseworker is responsible for providing support to clients in regard to issues impacting their social and emotional wellbeing through strength-based culturally safe trauma aware and healing-informed approaches.

The key objectives of the role include:

  • Strengthen social and emotional wellbeing by providing collaborative holistic and integrated care within the specialist Biripi teams of Domestic and Family Violence Alcohol & other Drugs Child Youth & Family and other interventions such as counselling healing activities and/or other social and emotional wellbeing supports to the Biripi community.
  • Provide social and emotional wellbeing education sessions and outreach services to clients with priority access for members of the Stolen Generation and vulnerable groups within the community.
  • Determine eligibility and priority of access of incoming referrals in the context of program guidelines and client presenting needs.
  • Undertake comprehensive assessment of new clients taking into consideration relevant domains such as body mind & emotions community culture country and spirituality.
  • Work with client to determine person centered goals and develop individual case plans.
  • Provide a mix of direct support and referral to additional support to assist client to achieve their goals and case plan objectives.
  • Work as part of the SEWB team to provide holistic wrap around services to clients.
  • Enhance pathways to education and employment reduce substance abuse violence and contact with the criminal justice system.
  • Ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership and community engagement and partnership is at the centre of all to the planning delivery evaluation and measurement of services provided.
  • Ensure service delivery is accessible responsive and safe for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and that cultural values strengths and differences are recognised and incorporated into the governance management and delivery of supports and services.
  • Actively participate in local suicide prevention strategies or networks where these are in place to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Develop strengths based culturally safe trauma aware healing informed group programs and activities within a social and emotional wellbeing framework.

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications or demonstrated experience in community services social welfare or health- related fields or tertiary qualifications in social work psychology and/or training and assessment.
  • Sound knowledge in the areas of Aboriginal communities social and emotional health and wellbeing mental health drug & alcohol and domestic violence.
  • Experience working with health service agencies non-government organisations community groups and health professionals at all levels.
  • Demonstrated continuous development of professional competencies and qualifications.
  • Ability to build relationships with all levels of the organisation and the community.
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly within tight time schedules and in accordance with variable workload demands.
  • Ability to hold all relevant security clearances including National Police Check and Working with Children clearance.
  • Genuinely and meaningfully enhance the health and social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people families and communities.
