Purpose of Job

Under limited supervision performs complex systems operation and technical maintenance of the Citys Traffic Operations Center (TOC) and associated electronic devices; is responsible for daily activities of the TOC including signal operation coordination of tasks and maintenance with other City Departments electronic device testing inspection of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices systems data management system enhancements and public liaison. Assists with the installation and maintenance of the Citys Wide Area Network communications system.

IV. Primary Job Challenges

A primary challenge of this position includes ensuring operation maintenance and inspection of the TOC and the TOC infrastructure is functioning properly including signal controllers signal cabinets detection and ITS devices without need for direction or guidance to do so.

VI. Key Competencies Required

Level 3: Read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations. Write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers customers and the general public.

Level 2: Add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Level 4: Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. In decision making some choices are known while others may need to be identified. Some reliance on a variety of complex instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.

VIII. Qualifications

Education and Experience: The required knowledge skill and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties are normally acquired through attainment of HS diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of related experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An associate degree or completion of a technical trade school is preferred.
