Job Description

Shenandoah Universitys School of Health Professions is accepting applications for a Program Director in the Entry-Level Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (OTD) Program. This full-time 12-month benefited position is based at our Winchester VA Health Professions Building campus.

Shenandoah Universitys Entry-Level OTD Hybrid Program is designed to provide a flexible high-quality education that merges online coursework with in-person learning to increase accessibility and accommodate a diverse student population. Unique features of our program include:

  • A hybrid format that integrates asynchronous (online) and synchronous coursework with regular in-person hands-on learning sessions held weekly on Tuesdays at our Winchester campus.

  • Embedded Level I fieldwork experiences within coursework prioritizing community-based partnerships to help students apply practical skills in a variety of real-world settings throughout their didactic education.

  • A student body that includes traditional and non-traditional learners offering a collaborative and enriching learning environment.

  • A strong commitment to interprofessional education with opportunities to collaborate with other health professions programs at Shenandoah University.

The Program Director plays a crucial leadership role in the continued success and growth of the OTD program which commenced in 2020. This position is responsible for the overall administration curriculum development faculty mentorship accreditation compliance student recruitment and retention and fostering a dynamic learning environment. The director will work closely with the faculty staff students and university leadership to ensure the program remains at the forefront of occupational therapy education and practice. This is a hybrid position with on-campus engagement each week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Administration: The Program Director provides strategic direction and oversight of the OTD program; supports and mentors faculty in hybrid teaching scholarship and service; oversees student recruitment and admissions; and fosters collaborations within the university and with external partners to enhance the programs impact.

  • Curriculum Development & Accreditation: The director ensures the OTD program maintains full compliance with ACOTE accreditation standards leading all necessary accreditation activities. They work with faculty to guide curriculum development and revision efforts to align with current best practices in OT education and practice.

  • Faculty & Student Support: A key component of this role is recruiting hiring and supporting faculty members in their professional development. The director fosters a supportive and inclusive environment for both students and faculty ensuring they have the resources needed to succeed.

  • Professional & Community Engagement: The Program Director represents Shenandoah University at state national and international OT events strengthening the programs visibility and reputation. They encourage faculty and student involvement in professional organizations research and community service. Additionally the director fosters interprofessional collaboration with other health profession programs expanding opportunities for teamwork and interdisciplinary learning. As part of Shenandoah Universitys commitment to global education faculty have the opportunity to engage in international experiences and educational travel broadening both student and faculty perspectives through cross-cultural learning and professional exchanges.

Required Skills

We are seeking a candidate who can demonstrate collaboration with faculty students staff and across the university along with a desire to serve our profession and the global community; who values diversity equity and inclusion in health care practice.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in occupational therapy or related field (PhD OTD EdD or equivalent)

  • Minimum of eight years of occupational therapy experience with at least four years of post-baccalaureate teaching experience

  • Administrative experience in areas such as program planning implementation personnel management evaluation and budgeting.

  • Commitment to diversity equity and inclusion in occupational therapy education and practice.

  • A record of scholarship professional service and leadership.

  • Current NBCOT certification and eligibility for licensure in Virginia.

  • Strong communication collaboration and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ACOTE accreditation processes.

  • A background in hybrid or online education.

  • Leadership experience in faculty mentorship and curriculum innovation.

  • Engagement in interprofessional education and practice.
