Job Description

Primary Function:

To inspect repair install and wire all electrical apparatus devices and circuits up to 480 vac and/or 550 V DC in the plants or assigned area. To inspect repair replace install move adjust set up and maintain all mechanical equipment.

Tools and Equipment:

Electrical testing instruments power hand drills grinders drill press pipe threading machine soldering equipment pipe benders safety devices miscellaneous hand tools and measuring devices hydraulic knockout computer testing equipment. Portable drill bearing puller hoists jacks power lift truck chain fall power saw buring equipment arbor press computers lubricating equipment etc.

Material:

All types and sizes of AC and DC motors and generators transformers circuit breakers rectifiers electronic controls control panels starters switches lighting equipment power distribution and control circuits conduit and fittings wire and cable hardware insultation solder repair and replacement of parts. Plant mechanical equipment repair parts lubricants hardware packing material miscellaneous stores materials various greases and oils filters grinding stones v-belts Plexiglas (lexan) requisitions/traveling forms etc.

Work procedure:

  1. Receive wiring diagrams specifications and instructions covering the scheduled and emergency repair installation and inspection work to be done.
  2. Analyze all types of drawing and wiring diagrams to locate and install circuits and equipment to determine material requirement needs and to select a logical approach to trouble shooting and repairing problems.
  3. Plan details of working procedure to effect the most logical approach to the job.
  4. Consider all safety precautions and the proper isolation of circuits to cause a minimum of interference to operations.
  5. Determine necessary tools and materials to perform required repairs and or replacements.
  6. Plan and perform work requiring a thorough working knowledge of electrical principles wiring specification codes properties of various materials and principles of operation and application of equipment.
  7. Locate source of trouble of any type of electrical equipment by tracing and testing circuits and inspecting for faulty operation.
  8. Dismantle inspect repair adjust or replace faulty parts and wiring on motors generators power distribution and control panels circuit breakers rectifiers electronic devices etc. Reassemble test and adjust equipment for safe and proper operation. Perform work on hot lines as required. Replace coils resistors rheostats relays etc.
  9. Adjust contactors replays bus riggings etc. Reconnect terminal leads panel board and distribution feeders.
  10. Install conduit fittings switches controls and fixtures and wires and connect all types of electrical equipment as required for new installation or replacement of facilities. Make all required splices and connector joints. Adjust all new equipment for proper operating characteristics.
  11. Complete and maintain required electrical maintenance records and forms.
  12. Receive instructions covering the schedule of emergency repair installation and inspection work to be done.
  13. Inspect mechanical equipment for defects and insufficient lubrication etc. Determine the best method of making repairs to minimize interruption of production. Advise when immediate shutdown of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when temporarily continued operation will have no harmful effect to the equipment or to the operator.
  14. Dismantle clean repair replace install maintain assemble and lubricate mechanical equipment. Adjust equipment for proper operating characteristics. Make either temporary or permanent repairs. Assemble and align gears bearings and shafts involving the application of press sliding and running fits.
  15. Operate simple machine tools drill press pipe threading machine power saw etc.
  16. Perform simple rigging as necessary. Make building repairs and is responsible for functioning of water and sanitary facilities.
  17. Change install and adjust equipment as required by current operating conditions and keep in compliance with OSHA regulations.
  18. The use of computers.
  19. Ordering all necessary parts and materials needed for maintenance and production equipment when required as approved by supervisor.
  20. Changing of all filters on all pieces of equipment.
  21. Maintain accurate maintenance shop records PMs lubrication records and order parts if necessary as approved by supervisor.
  22. Change order and inspect v-belts on equipment.
  23. Maintain all present and future equipment.
  24. Repair broken windows when required.
  25. Ordering oils and greases maintain inventory and maintain air lubricating systems including lubrication PM forms.
  26. Assist and change grinding stones when required.
  27. Work with repair crews as directed on emergency breakdowns.
  28. Assist safety committee in correcting safety related repairs on machines facilities etc.
  29. Complete and maintain required maintenance repair or replacement forms.
  30. Maintain a clean and orderly working area as well as equipment.
  31. Practice safe work habits and follow established safety procedures.
  32. Assist and/or instruct other MRIs millwrights and helpers as required.
