Job Description

Overview

The Executive Director is responsible for the effective operation of Surgical and Orthopaedic Services at Iowa Methodist Medical Center Iowa Lutheran Hospital and Methodist West Hospital. Position also includes responsibility for employed CRNAs at Iowa Lutheran Hospital Laser Eye Center and Iowa Methodist Medical Center Endoscopy.

As a member of the UnityPoint Health Des Moines operations team the Executive Director will lead the assigned service line and the teams commitment to quality service growth and fiscal accountability and will be held accountable for the accomplishment of the results as indicated in the annual strategic plan. The Executive Director creates a vision and strategic direction for the service lines which supports the mission vision values and strategic plan of UPH-DM.

With the support of the administrative team and the strategic plan the Executive Director assumes responsibility for the creation development and implementation of new programs; seeking avenues of growth and new opportunities; guides the development of a patient centered service which sets the standards in quality service and cost. As the expert in the business of the service line serves as an excellent resource and representative for the service line among health care providers partners and students affiliated with the system.

The Executive Director promotes an environment which encourages team members to gain new skills that advance the service line as well as themselves and provides an environment that promotes trust and decision-making at the staff level.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the key leader and role model; balances team and individual responsibilities; performs all duties of a manager to the leadership of the areas of responsibility.
  • Serves as the key business leader; responsible for administrative functions of the service line such as: development of budgets marketing strategic planning development of partnerships and relationships
  • Leads customer service and quality initiatives; evaluates outcomes and data in order to continuously improve operational processes procedures & systems; integrates appropriate technology
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the current and future health care environment; serves as liaison with providers to determine patient care services procedures protocols and policies are met; responsible for clinical services within the service line such as standards of care clinical pathways and staffing plans
  • Serves as a representative of UPH-DM on various committees and boards supporting the care and services for patients and the community
  • Organizes the OR Governance Committee meetings/agendas.
  • Leads co-management agreements for IMMC MWH and ILH.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Preferred or Specialized

Education:

Masters degree or commiserate experience in a related field.

Experience:

Five years of progressively more responsible management positions in hospital outpatient or clinical environment.

Ability to develop positive relationships with physicians management and community.

Excellent results in improving performance.

Experience as an excellent communicator manager and developer of people and programs.

License(s)/Certification(s):

Must hold a current licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa.

Professional certification in a specialty applicable to the position is preferred.

Valid drivers license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Writes reads comprehends and speaks fluent English.

Basic computer knowledge using word processing spreadsheet e-mail and web browser.

Other:

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
