Job Description

Ivy Tech Bloomington is searching for on campus part-time adjunct faculty to teach Biotechnology courses for the upcoming semester. Classes are 8weeks long and either start in Aug or Oct. There are day and evening courses.
Aside from adding more instructors for Biotechnology there is one specific course BIOT 104: Quality Practices that we are looking to fill. That course starts in Oct. and runs until mid Dec. and meets Mon 5:00pm - 7:50pm.

Adjuncts can teach between 1 - 13 contact hours and are paid $46.75 per contact hour. Interviews will be on a rolling basis so please apply soon to be considered for the up coming semester. Applicants should attach unofficial transcripts showing the minimum qualifications when applying.

Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.

  • Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
  • Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
  • Develops/maintains course outlines syllabi lesson plans assignments tests and materials.
  • Maintains accurate student records grades and other requirements.
  • Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).
  • Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner complies with College policies campus guidelines and expectations.
  • Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms labs and all learning environments.


This is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) other applicable regulatory requirements and professional standards. Conducts all activities with an appreciation respect and promotion of diversity of people styles and views.

A qualified faculty member in Biotechnology meets all three of the following criteria:

1. Possesses an earned masters or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in biology chemistry biochemistry biotechnology microbiology or a related field; and

2. Completed 18 graduate semester hours in cell biology biochemistry molecular biology biotechnology and/or microbiology; and

3. Has two or more years of experience in the field.

A qualified faculty member teaching BIOT 104 meets the following criteria:

1. Holds up-to-date American Society for Quality certifications: Certified Quality Improvement Associate and Certified Quality Process Analyst and Meets the Biotechnology program standard (see below). OR

2. Holds up-to-date American Society for Quality certifications: Certified Quality Improvement Associate and Certified Quality Process Analyst and

Possesses an earned bachelors or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution and

Has 5 or more years relevant industry experience in quality in the biotechnology industry.
