Job Description

Math Tutor (part-time) for the 2025-2026 School Year

Atrium School (PreK Grade 8) Watertown MA

Atrium School currently seeks a part-time (3 or 4 days per week) math tutor to be paid privately by families. The hours would be negotiable ideally within school hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. With a passion for and specialization in mathematics you will work with students individually or in small groups providing them with support and guidance to improve their understanding and skills in mathematics. Your primary responsibility will be to assist students in comprehending mathematical concepts solving problems and developing effective study strategies. Atrium teachers will work in partnership to support that goal.

As a self-employed tutor this position naturally involves invoicing and collecting payment directly from families who will welcome this support for their child. As a service provider who works on the school site you will also be required to secure liability insurance and a background check. At the same time Atrium will provide an already established clientele facilitate and encourage connections with families offer contact information regarding insurance and background checks and ensure that an appropriate space is available to work in the school.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions with elementary and middle school students.
  • Assess students math proficiency and identify areas for improvement.
  • Create personalized learning plans tailored to each students needs and learning style.
  • Teach fundamental math concepts and skills such as addition subtraction multiplication division fractions decimals geometry and algebra.
  • Provide clear explanations and examples to help students grasp difficult concepts.
  • Offer guidance and assistance with homework assignments projects and test preparation.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies as necessary to ensure comprehension and improvement.
  • Foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment that promotes confidence and academic success.
  • Communicate regularly with students parents or guardians to discuss progress challenges and goals.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support students inside and outside of class.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in mathematics education or a related field (preferred).
  • Previous experience working as a math tutor or teacher.
  • Strong understanding of elementary and middle school math curriculum and standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience empathy and the ability to motivate and inspire students.
  • Reliable and punctual with a commitment to maintaining scheduled tutoring sessions.
  • Ability to adapt teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
  • Relevant certifications may be required.
