Corewell Health is seeking an enthusiastic self-motivated collaborative scientist to join a cutting edge translational and clinical polyamine research team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to envision and drive further understanding of polyaminopathies including Bachmann-Bupp syndrome and other related experience with the polyamine pathway is required.
The scientist will work with clinical staff and the existing research team to study the pathophysiology and mechanisms of diseases impacted by polyamines as well as current and future treatments. This program operates through the International Center for Polyamine Disorders as a collaboration of Michigan State University and Corewell Health in Grand Rapids Michigan. The International Center for Polyamine Disorders launched in summer 2020 and includes a patient biobank research lab core and clinical team.
The scientist will work with the International Center for Polyamine Disorders research team and external collaborators to publish peer reviewed manuscripts in high quality journals. The scientist will also work to identify funding opportunities and assist the International Center for Polyamine Disorders research team with the development of competitive grant applications to support new and continuing research endeavors.
This position includes an academic appointment through Michigan State University College of Human between the International Center for Polyamine Disorders and other local and national institutions are ongoing and would be joined by this positions addition animal modeling multiomic data sets and novel treatment evaluations are underway and a successful applicant would be willing to enhance those ongoing efforts.
A hybrid work role would be available if candidates prefer. The amount of inperson work would vary based on current and future experimentation but is best estimated at 60% to 80%. A fully equipped wet lab space would be provided at the Grand Rapids Research Center including 2 individual bays of workspace a separate room for tissue culture a vivarium suite multiple shared facilities and a private office. A successful applicant would be expected to bring passion for this work particularly for its impact on patients and a desire to help grow and develop this expanding program.
Works independently performing investigative research in areas related to patient care or biomedicine. Assists principal investigator in the development of new treatment methodologies and prepares material for publications or use in adjusting lab procedures. Leads experiments acting as a technical expert for employees on clinical or laboratory matters. May assist in preparing grant applications.
Coordinates the planning and procedures for research with professional cohorts.
Conducts and interprets complex research procedures; analyzes and interprets data.
Participates with research support employees post-doctoral fellows and medical staff and residents in organizing and interpreting data for their research projects.
Devises and implements new methods/techniques for lab. Incorporates procedures and/or new equipment into lab routine and trains employees on same.
May coordinate material purchasing for lab
Recommends and orders lab equipment.
Conducts sophisticated review of scientific literature to ensure lab remains state-of-the-art
May initiate and write manuscripts for publication and scientific presentations.
Required
Masters Degree
2 years of research experience or relevant post-doctoral research in basic sciences clinical sciences or health services.
Preferred
Proven statistical experience.
