Ensures that nursing care delivered to individuals and groups through direct care delivery delegation of patient care activities and supervision of those activities is consistent with the specialized knowledge judgment and skill derived from the principles of biological physical behavioral environmental safety spiritual social and nursing services. Must possess critical thinking skills in order to provide age and developmentally appropriate comprehensive patient care and subsequent interruption and under stressful situations. Nursing care of client takes into consideration their development capabilities and physiologic process.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
*All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise*
1. Nursing care is provided in collaboration with the therapies of other healthcare disciplines. Assures patient/significant other or guardian is informed regarding the plans of care.
2. Recognizes urgent/emergent patient needs. Performs safely in urgent and emergency situations based on accurate assessment. Acts as team leader in code situation using ACLS protocols.
3. Plans nursing interventions (physiological psychosocial and educational) to address the identified patient problems.
4. Accurately screens each potential ECP patient using contraindication guidelines (Flower Hospital only)
5. Efficiently operates ACS External Counterpulsation Therapy equipment (Flower Hospital only)
6. Accurately reads/identifies plethysmographic wave forms. Appropriately Adjusts pressure to obtain therapeutic results during ECP Therapy. (Flower Hospital only)
7. Builds on current knowledge base and uses additional information necessary to make assessments plan intervention and evaluation.
8. Documents the health education and discharge needs on initial rehabilitation day.
9. Mutually sets goals with patient. Evaluates patient progress towards identified goals in the plans of care and revises accordingly. At discharge there are outcomes documented on all plans of care and explanation if goals are not met.
10. Is responsible for the identification of clinical patient problem(s) during therapy. Works in collaboration with the therapists and assistants but the RN is the licensed staff member in charge of the overall care of the patient.
11. Follows through with identified educational needs by notifying appropriate resource staff to assist.
12. Appropriate interventions/treatments as prescribed by physicians and other Health Care Professionals are timely and documented by R.N. or R.N.s designee
13. Provides thorough and effective education to patient family and significant other on medications and CAD risk factor modifications. Assesses the learning needs of the patient population served and aligns core curriculum.
14. Delivers group and individual education effectively by assessing barriers to learning and incorporating teaching methods to accommodate individual learning needs.
15. Adheres to hospital-wide policies and procedures.
16. Other duties as assigned.
Education:Graduation from and accredited school of nursing
Skills:Recent experience on a cardiac unit
Years of Experience:2 years of experience
License:License to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Ohio/Michigan (based on assignment)
Certification:BLS and ACLS Health Care Provider training required

Physical Demands:Requires ability to function with constant interruption and under stressful situations. Possible exposure exists to communicable diseases toxic substances and other conditions common to a clinical environment. Weight requirement according to Department of Labor statistics on occupational requirements.
