Job Description

Purpose

The Inventory Control Assistant 2 monitors and maintainsstock levels while arranging for the procurement of new or replacementmaterials and services.

Essential Functions

Inventory Procurement and Control

  • Procure materials equipment and supplies using various purchasing methods including requisitions commodity service releases service orders and ProCard.
  • Review and verify daily transaction tabulation reports and initiate corrective actions.
  • Support inventory customers by facilitating the timely disbursement receipt and proper storage of materials.
  • Monitor contract orders for upcoming expiration dates.
  • Track expenditures to ensure compliance and budget control.
  • Coordinate and conduct daily inventory and cycle counts to ensure accuracy of master records and physical inventory.
  • Investigate inventory variances identify root causes and initiate corrective actions.
  • Move and manage materials by operating equipment such as pallet jacks forklifts and skid steers.
  • Authorize invoice payments for purchase orders service orders and other purchases by matching invoices with delivery tickets and verifying all supporting documentation.
  • Inspect incoming materials against packing slips and purchase orders and arrange for acceptance or rejection as appropriate.
  • Verify all materials are properly coded stored and secured.
  • Handle phone orders and dispatch field crews.

Divisional Support

  • Lead and prioritize the daily tasks of the Inventory Control Assistant 1 staff City Laborers and other assigned personnel to align with departmental goals and timelines.
  • Support Inventory Managers in maintaining cleanliness and organization of inventory store areas stockrooms yards and storage buildings.

Conditions of Employment

The Inventory Control Assistant 2 must be willing and ableto do the following:

  • Must be available for emergency call-in work during non-standard business hours including evenings weekends and holidays.
  • Withstand variable environmental conditions both indoors and out such as heat cold fumes oil and dust.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment/material alone up to 75 pounds more with assistance.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods up to eight hours per day.
  • Perform physical activities in the work environment that require agility including ascending or descending ladders stairs walking and standing crouching stooping kneeling reaching balancing pushing and pulling.

The preplacement medical requirements for this title includethe following:

  • Drug Test
  • Physical with lift test
  • Audiogram
  • Vision test

Minimum Requirements

  1. Two years of experience performing functions related to storekeeping warehousing inventory control and/or purchasing.
  2. Valid drivers license at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
  3. Good driving record at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
  4. Forklift operator and Skidster Certification within six months of appointment.

Knowledge Skills Abilities & Other Characteristics

Technical

  • Knowledge of storekeeping warehousing and inventory control and purchasing procedures.
  • Knowledge of general construction materials and methods.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use bar-coding technology.
  • Data entry and computer skills to accurately enter code and track inventory and purchases.
  • Ability to read and interpret forms blueprints policies and procedures.
  • Ability to learn and safely operate a forklift and skid steer to load and unload supplies and equipment.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work procedures in repair shops.
  • Ability to use all equipment safely including departmental vehicles.
  • Ability to monitor the work site area including pedestrian and vehicle traffic to ensure the safety of the city employees and the public.

Communication and Interpersonal

  • Ability to work cooperatively effectively and fairly with coworkers and residents whose backgrounds may differ from ones own.
  • Verbal communication skills to effectively communicate in person and over the phone.
  • Written communication skills to compose clear and error-free correspondence and reports.
  • Customer service skills to positively interact and effectively communicate with diverse staff at all levels of the organization and the general public vendors and contractors.

Current Salary

The current salary range(Pay Range 8DN) is$51816-$67106annuallyand the current resident incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee residentsis$53370-$69119 will be made inaccordance with the City of Milwaukee SalaryOrdinance.
