About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated responsible and compassionate Full-Time House Parent to support and supervise a group of international middle and high school students living in a small residence hall on the scenic waterfront campus of Mitchell College in New London Connecticut. While the residence hall is part of the larger Mitchell College campus it offers a quiet semi-private setting with stunning views of Long Island Sound and easy access to a private beach just across the street.

The House Parent must be capable of independently managing the daily operations and student care of the residence hall as there are no direct reports. A part-time Resident Assistant (RA) will support with some overnight responsibilities. This is a live-in position and the House Parent may live with a significant other or companion.

This is a 10-month live-in position that includes a mix of daytime evening and weekend responsibilities. Students arrive in mid-August and depart in mid-June. For the 2025-2026 academic year the residence will begin with 10 students and may grow to house up to 25. All students attend nearby private day schools.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety well-being and comfort of all residence hall residents
  • Build a welcoming respectful and nurturing home environment
  • Provide informal mentoring and support for international students adjusting to life in the U.S.
  • Enforce house rules and promote good conduct and community values
  • Transport students daily to and from school and to extracurricular events using a 15-passenger van
  • Plan organize and execute regular fun events and teambuilding activities for students both on and off-campus
  • Ensure consistent overnight supervision; coordinate with a part-time RA for coverage
  • Remain on-call for emergencies or urgent needs during non-school hours
  • Liaise with private school and APEX staff
  • Manage basic scheduling meal coordination (if needed) and parent communications

Compensation Benefits & Perks

  • Salary: $45000-$50000/year (10-month contract)

Qualifications

  • Fluency in English is required; Mandarin Chinese strongly preferred
  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record; comfortable operating a 15-passenger van
  • Prior experience supervising or working with youth (especially in a residential educational or caregiving setting)
  • Organized dependable and self-sufficient-must be able to manage the residence hall independently
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Background in education counseling social work or youth programs preferred
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
