Job Description

The Department of Neuroscience at High Point University invites applications for a full-time position in Neuroscience at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank beginning August 2026. This position is a 9-month non-tenure track position eligible for promotion to Associate and Professor ranks and multi-year contract extensions. The area of research is open.

Teaching responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate neuroscience courses at all levels with an opportunity to develop neuroscience interdisciplinary honors and general education courses for non-science majors. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop and maintain an active research program involving undergraduate students collaborate with faculty on curriculum and program development and contribute to the Department and wider University through service responsibilities.

The neuroscience program at High Point University has a focus on hands-on learning and mentorship with each lecture class having a lab component that teaches students real-world research skills including cell culturing gel electrophoresis and rodent research. The program seeks a dynamic individual who will embrace these values and is passionate about mentoring undergraduates.

Successful applicants will have access to startup and institutional research and professional development funding and laboratory and office space in the Wanek School of Natural Sciences. A Ph.D. in neuroscience or closely related field is required; postdoctoral or recent teaching experience is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience Biopsychology or a related field

Experience and Training:

  • Experience in conducting Neuroscience research that meaningfully involves undergraduate students

  • Experience or promise in teaching Neuroscience courses

Applications should include the following items submitted as a single document: (i) a cover letter addressing the applicants qualifications and interest in the position (ii) curriculum vitae (iii) a statement of teaching philosophy (including a description of approaches to teaching both science and non-science majors) (iv) a statement of research interests with an emphasis on meaningful undergraduate lab involvement and (v) an unofficial transcript with the highest awarded degree. Additionally three letters of recommendation will be required for candidates after advancing to the in-person stage of interviews; letters of recommendation should be emailed by references to and at least one reference should be able to address the applicants potential or experience in teaching.
