Job Summary

The Speech-Language Pathologist with an unrestricted Massachusetts license is responsible for providing evaluation and treatment services for patients referred with speech language and/or swallowing disorders. Services are provided on an inpatient basis.

Our Speech Pathology team services patients who have a wide variety of communication and swallowing disorders at the inpatient and outpatient levels. Our team currently works with adults at the inpatient level adults and pediatrics at the outpatient level and completes adult video fluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS) and fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES).

We are currently looking for a Speech Pathologist who provides skilled speech-language and swallowing services to adults at the inpatient level across weekend shifts at Brigham and Womens Faulkner Hospital. Services to be provided in accordance with State Licensure Statute and Regulations Professional Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics applicable federal state and regulatory agencies standards and regulations hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

An ideal candidate brings enthusiasm collaboration and a high clinical skillset to the team. Our team consistently collaborates with many interdisciplinary teams at the inpatient and outpatient levels including but not limited to the Voice Center Palliative Care Primary Care Physicians Nutrition and Radiology. Our team works closely with physical and occupational therapy as indicated for each patient. There are opportunities for skill set development across all domains of the department depending upon experience and clinical interest especially as our department grows with the hospital campus expansion.

Specifically:

1. Provide adult inpatient dysphagia speech and language services during weekend hours of operation. Areas of service include but are not limited to dysphagia language motor speech and cognitive linguistic domains.

2. Evaluate patients communication and swallowing function using standardized evaluations clinical evaluations and parent/patient report. Identify speech and/or language disorders and associated dysfunction(s). In collaboration with patient and/or caregiver develops a treatment plan with treatment goals directed towards maximizing function.

3. Additional opportunities for skill set development across all domains of the department depending upon experience and clinical interest especially as our department grows with the hospital campus expansion.

4. Provide appropriate treatment for patient based upon patient/caregiver goals to maximize outcomes.

5. Demonstrate competency in all clinical knowledge and skills specific to the patient case type(s) in assigned area of care.

6. Consults with other members of the health care team to ensure coordination and effectiveness of therapies provided.

7. Manages patient caseload assigned.

8. Demonstrates effective written and oral communication skills. Maintains documentation per departmental policy and format that is accurate complete and timely.

9. Participates in activities directed towards increasing knowledge and skill and professional development.

10. Participates in departmental meetings which help to formulate policies procedures and program development.

11. Performs all other duties as assigned.

12. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients services by the Speech Pathology team.

Education
Masters Degree Speech Therapy required

Speech-language Pathologist State License -






Basic Life Support BLS Certification

Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology CCC-SLP - American Speech Language Hearing Association preferred

Experience
Speech pathology experience of 1-2 years preferred in adult inpatient setting

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Familiarity of diagnostic assessments for speech language.
- Employee must have strong interpersonal skills.






- Must possess effective communication skills (written and verbal) to interact with patients colleagues and other health care personnel.
- Ability to incorporate new clinical procedures sufficiently to perform clinical services independently.
- Ability to perform functions associated with contemporary audiology and speech-language pathology scope of practice.
- Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
- Knowledge of state standards federal and state regulations.
