IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR JOB TITLE: Laboratory Director
Position Summary
The Medical Technologist performs clinical laboratory testing on blood body fluids and tissues in general laboratory disciplines and additional ones for which they have been trained using established laboratory procedures. The Medical technologist utilizes equipment and instruments on which maintenance and quality control must be performed. The Medical Technologist applies professional knowledge to determine the causes or possible significance of abnormalities and departures from the norm when test results do not conform to expectations.

Position Requirements
a. 60 semester hours including 24 hours of medical laboratory technology
courses or 24 semester hours of science courses including 6 hours each of
chemistry and biology and 12 hours in chemistry biology or medical
laboratory technology or any combination; and
b. Completion of an accredited clinical laboratory or medical laboratory training
program which may be included in the 60 semester hours specified above or
3 months documented training in each specialty in which the individual
performs high complexity testing.

Physical Requirements
Light Work Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.
